Matt Duvall Passed Away

Not to try and get into a mud slinging contest (I know you’ll keep it civil Walkway) but are you really saying that steroid abuse doesn’t kill people but taking Tylenol does?

well sure, if you were to down bottles upon bottles of oral AAS in a sitting…

same goes for drinking too much water in a sitting…

perhaps it’d be safer to say that steroid abuse is “safer” than following the dosing guidelines on the tylenol bottle.

You can’t compare drinking water and steroid abuse… Come on man. ODing on any substance is bad.

I am in no way a steroid hater but all the people who try to say that extended periods of steroid abuse aren’t detrimental to ones health are either being very naive or disingenuous IMO.

Can AAS be used responsibly and safely? Of course… But steroid abuse is not good for ones health.

EDIT:
inb4 bodybuilding isn’t about health
inb4 where are the scientific studies showing steroid abuse can cause death (since steroid use hasn’t really been studied in that manner)

absolute abuse of orals has maybe led to a small handful of liver transplants…

whereas, “safe” usage of tylenol as deemed by the FDA has led to how many?

im not trying to defend abuse, but calling it deadly (i know u werent calling it deadly) is not accurate.

if you ignore the warning signs (high blood pressure, nausea, blood in stool/urine) of any substance abuse, you will pay…

Maybe we should make a new thread about this so that this one doesn’t get too detailed (if you consider this topic a derailment)

This is false since I prescribe it almost daily. Tylenol III and Tylenol IV would be what I am talking about here…not just acetaminophen alone. The same way you would get steroids through black market sources would be the same way you get the strength I would imagine was used here.

Also, ALL STORES carry simple acetaminophen so I am not sure where you got your info.

Maybe it’s Walgreens? I know the pharmacies around my house (San Diego) don’t sell Tylenol because I tried to buy some when my wife was pregnant.

Are you implying that it would be unlikely heavy steroid usage over years and years, sometimes in up to TEN TO TWENTY times the intended clinical dosages, don’t cause health damaging side effects that over this lengthy amount of time won’t lend to an untimely death? You don’t think walking around with hypertension, hyperlipidemia, polycythemia, renal insufficiency, edema, ands other problems for years can’t play a part in someone dying an untimely death. [/quote]

I’m sorry, but where did you see he used “ten to twenty times” the clinical dosage? Further, you are discussing secondary effects to which a huge genetic component would be involved.

Simply put, if a bodybuilder dies, I would NOT look at “steroid use” as the primary cause. I would look at all of the other shit they were doing first.

You seem to enjoy telling me what I “imply”. Just ask.

Who pissed in your Cheerios this morning?

If you re read my post you’ll see that I said “IIRC” which means “if I recall correctly”… Which was included because I wasn’t sure if I was mentioning the correct store… But thanks again for your wonderful insight.

“Didn’t know why the hell you were doing”??? lol

OK, I see now what you’re talking about. Apparently some local stores are not carrying it. But it appears to be due to manufacturing and recall issues and not anything related to the safety of the drug itself.

Oh ok. Yeah I tried to go to 2-3 drug stores (this was a few months ago when my wife was still pregnant) looking for Tylenol but no one was carrying it. I never asked why cause it wasn’t that big of a deal lol

I’m good this morning. I just know for sure that isn’t the case. They literally recommend I prescribe this for pregnant women if I get a consult from an OBGYN.

You know for sure that isn’t the case? I guess you missed the link that was posted saying that some stores weren’t carrying it for a while?

I know they prescribe it for pregnant women, that’s why I said I was trying to but it for my pregnant (at the time) wife.

What are you even talking about? Stop trying to start an argument for no reason.

That’s called a recall…and has nothing to do with some store saying they won’t carry the drug. Also, they still carried acetaminophen which is what Tylenol is.

just to get back on track, while I am most certainly pro-steroids I don’t think you can ignore the negative effect on heart health.

Not saying that it had anything to do with Matt Duvall, but there’s definitely a nasty side to walking around with blood thicker than hershey’s syrup…

Agreed. High blood pressure on a chronic level can cause serious problems. Some steroids can increase the production of blood cells…which can actually cause some lifters to give blood regularly to avoid negative results.

What I do try to point out though is that when you give info like this to a lay person…they will use it whatever way they want to reach whatever conclusion supports their own politics and values. They will ignore the fact that their lifestyle leads to many of the same effects to point out the negatives seen here…while being blind to how it is all relative.
