Masculine Excellence Requires Discipline

Map and Reduce are both commonly used on lists/arrays in programming but MapReduce is a completely different beast that just uses those methods and a ton of other shit, under the hood.

From the wiki article

The “MapReduce System” (also called “infrastructure” or “framework”) orchestrates the processing by marshalling the distributed servers, running the various tasks in parallel, managing all communications and data transfers between the various parts of the system, and providing for redundancy and fault tolerance.

Yup. Alright, now I know there’s another basement nerd like me here lol.

If we look at the history of data and how distributed systems were required when it got too large to process or store in a single place, programmers not only had to write their programs and processing logic, they had to come up with different ways of distributing it.

And to add to the above, MapReduced was what gave them a framework that abstracted away at least the distribution part. This was a time when a fucking basic website cost at least $500 USD for just HTML and the fucking side frames LOL. Add in the fancy stuff like CSS and FLASH(HAHAHAHAHAHAHA FUCK THEM) and a simple thing you can now do on wordpress yourself with 10x more features would set you back over a thousand bucks. Javascript was still just a scripting language meant for the browser and I don’t think I even heard about it when I tried to do my company website with basic HTML since we had no fucking money and our PC couldn’t even handle FRONTPAGE and learning basic HTML was faster. Fucking did that on NOTEPAD LOLOLOL.

Btw, any of you know the part I asked about Ananconda? I REALLY don’t want to install it even if it’s miniconda.

Btw I got a confession but that would be fit for the Flame Free thread.

You shouldn’t need Anaconda itself, but you will need to be able to import the libraries from Anaconda… Meaning you will either need the libraries in a call-able repository OR you will need them to be installed.

That, or if you only need some select libraries, I’m sure you could copy and paste the source code as if it were your own and use it then. Still, you would need to either be able to see it or direct your interpreter to it in one format or another. To my limited knowledge.

I’ve dabbled in Python and I know a thing or two about C# but truly I’m not that deep into programming, and I’m not saying that to be humble. The most advanced programming class I’ve taken is “Intro to programming” or “Programming for Engineers”, both of which are entry level courses. I have a LOT more to go before I’d consider myself knowledgeable tbh.

Sounds like I have some research to do!

P.S always happy to talk tech if either of you two want. I’m moving from aviation manufacturing (in the terribly niche field of Prototype Development) to computer/tech stuff… It’s going to be a tough bridge to gap I think. That and I learn best via conversational entropy :man_shrugging:

See, this is why I keep saying you are or will be much more advanced than me because our last exchange you thought I was “advanced” lol. I get what you’re saying but I’m not really sure how to do that lol. It’s like I don’t even know BALLS about excel other than using the add function even though I’ve been doing some harrowing projects with a UI based product for data cleaning and transformations from a google partner which requires some formulas lol

Programming is easy. The logic is the tough part. And it’s the backend and low level concepts that are hard wrt to programming, the latter which I fucking refuse to touch even though more and more IOT would require lots of C++. You know one language and the rest are easy to pick up. JS as a scripting language is idiot proof. The “complicated” for other stuff is all based on OOP, which JS introduced several years ago although the community is so wishy washy they can’t decide if they want function or object based programming nowadays.

Fault tolerance alone is HIGHLY IMPORTANT because today, we’re talking about infrastructure or systems run in real-time that can cost lives if there’s any failure. Which involves the need for redundancy. clustering, high availability, etc.

Btw, u still using notion? I hired a freelancer from India on a personal basis to solve permission issues for an SSD which I literally cloned from my previous PC. Dude did such a good job I wanted to pay him more but he wouldn’t accept it. We had some informal conversations and he was saying he was into productivity stuff and the PSI is like 250 where he lives, which would be a fucking state of emergence here lol.

So I offered to send 2 air purifiers I wasn’t using only because the fuckers who made them sell them cheap but make it so you need to change the fucking filters every month. That’s how the dipshits make their money since it’s a local company and we do not have places where you can by cheap E11 to HEPA filters at cheap prices. You guys can get them at Walmart and in places like India and China, they’re fucking dirt cheap but the air purifiers are expensive. Then I found out the fucking Indian government won’t allow non-retail electronic products in unless they’re for life saving or stuff like hearing aids.

So I felt really bad that I didn’t deliver on my promise I decided I’d go buy a notion template that includes a task manager and some kind of productivity concept called P.A.R.A that cost me 50 bucks which would be around the price of the transport fees but I don’t really use it.

He’s not really keen on it. If you want a copy, tell me and I’ll share the original with you. For the instructions, I can go save the unlisted youtube videos into a playlist and send it over. The YouTube playlist would take a while, though. I’m not gonna consider this a bootleg in principle since I don’t use it even though I paid for it.

The Ultimate Second-Brain Notion Template - Tasks, Notes, and Projects (thomasjfrank.com)

System that is used:
The PARA Method: A Universal System for Organizing Digital Information - Forte Labs

Applicable for this too:
What is GTD - Getting Things Done®

Which means it’s too fucking complex for me to use lol.

If you just need a task manager, duplicate the same dude’s ultimate tasks template, which is free on his site. It’s the same thing in the one I paid for. The task manager itself is too complex for me to use even though it’s free and I don’t care for the productivity methods the paid version uses.

Knowing stuff isn’t an indication of intelligence lol. it’s just knowing stuff.

Btw @Andrewgen_Receptors @heretolog

I had to install Anaconda and it was like something inside me died. But at least they now allow the options to not fuck with your environtal paths and shit and not making itself the default env.

Calling a library would look like this:

import [library name] as [abc]

or if you were just calling a specific function from the library:

from [library name] import [function name]

Haven’t even tried it yet TBH. Every different class I take for programming seems to require me to use a different interpreter so I’ve just been rotating through them. I’m still a bit too new to have developed any preferences between any either so :man_shrugging:

I appreciate the offer, but I’ll pass because I honestly have no clue what I’d use it for and I’d rather not waste it.

Oh, no, I meant I didn’t know what the term “callable repository is” lol. One of the reasons why python, from what I understand, is so popular other that it fucking actually looks like English, is the amount of libraries they have.

Anyway, I checked my environment variables and with the tiny bit of knowledge I have (I consider stuff like this “hardware” which I’ve repeatedly said I completely suck at) and there haven’t been fucked with.

See what I mean @rugby_lifting ? It’s just the terminology you’re not familiar with.

Ok, I’ll ask others I know. I feel like I simply wasted $50 since even for task management I have my own system that I don’t use notion for.

If you ever want to discuss construction contract law or construction on the railway I’m your man but programming not so much :joy:

I can really appreciate a guy that looks as good as you, but is using Real People weights. I often question the listed poundages I see in a lot of posts!

Much appreciated! I should add that this was more of a deload workout because I wasn’t chasing heavy weights for anything, but these were all done with the intent of being heavy and controlled. I’ve found recovery to be far easier when not beating the logbook and not using too much for intensification techniques.

-Didn’t feel Lats like I should have. Might change BB Row out for Yates Row to remedy.
-Forearms and triceps got it good this run-through.
-Legs (thighs) were burning and have a little pump currently which is unusual for me.
-Also added a little light trap work in, because traps.

Added extra water to my Lemon Surge and really enjoyed it. Regular mix ratio wasn’t doing it for me, but ~30oz water to 1 scoop was great!

Shoulders felt really good after this session - was introduced to some new shoulder veins… kind of wish I had more pump in my Medial Delts. Biceps were on fire and calves were flat-lining. Yates Row for Lats Block was the right call; felt much better, still feels like it’s missing something… perhaps band Pull-Aparts or a BFR hold at the end of BB Rows.

Great work brother! Hope the challenge has been as fun for you so far as it has been for me.

Great job!

I have an idea for a killer medial-delt pump that I’ll get to you tomorrow.

Here are a couple of suggestions for lats (my favorite body part):

Single-Arm Dumbbell Row with Opposite Knee and Hand on Bench

  1. Row in an arc from shoulder to hip
  2. Roll torso a few inches away from the floor on eccentric and stretch the bottom
  3. Roll torso back on the concentric and squeeze the top with the dumbbell at hip

Scrape-the-Rack Flutter Rows - will blow up your lats and the whole back

  1. Keep torso at 45 degrees
  2. Use a medium/narrow overhand grip
  3. Keep elbows in the pocket where you feel the lats working the most – usually closer in
  4. Pull back and up, scraping the rack

Here’s a so-so video on Scrape-the-Rack Rows (not flutters) in case you’ve not done them:

So I haven’t kept up with my log, and coincidentally hadn’t trained in like a week… Lots of stress at work and an extremely anticlimactic interview result.
Long story short: I spoke with my boss if she wanted me to apply to a position I knew they were having a hard time filling; she firmly responded ‘yes’ that she wanted me to apply (because I already do half of the job’s requirements in my current role and frequently train the other people actually in the job I was asked to apply to). Went in for the interview, felt like I did great, then she comes back the next day saying “we’ve decided to go with a different candidate”… To which I know that no one else has applied or been interviewed.
Was extremely upset by this because she asked me to apply, but have had a couple days to reflect on it and decided this can still be a good thing for me. At least now I don’t have to keep doing stuff above my paygrade without being paid for it, because I’ve no one to impress :joy:

Anyways, I trained yesterday and just did some random Pull exercises as I just needed some iron therapy. Didn’t log training or weights, but this session felt pretty good - was also my first training session while on TRT.

Started TRT on Monday with 26mg ED injections, along with injectable Vitamin D3. Feel good, I think I’m noticing some of these changes but I’ll give it time - it’s been a very long and stressful week, so it’s hard to tell.
Sleep quality has been terrible the past week or so, but again - the entire week has been ridiculously stressful so I can’t say if TRT or Stress is causing this.
