Masch Needs a New Log

Hi Everyone! Thanks for poppin’ in and sending some love my way! (even you Rock, you softee). Its much appreciated and much needed. I wish I could squeeze you all!

Greg - Thanks sailor! And yes, def watched the USA/Brazil game. Fantastic header in the 97 minute! Ridic. I was also reminded how much more violent women play. A little bit of elegance ladies. Yeesh!

In other footie news, the Copa America is on, and Argentina finally looks like a team that plays professional soccer. Dios mio!

Charlie, YAY! I love youtube friends! Except the creepy ones…I’ll friend you back!

Hi Andy! I’m actually not too certain on the protocol right now. I thought I did my due diligence prior to surgery, but it seems that I overlooked a shitload of details. As things progress the more the details unravel. According to my mom, this is because “if doctors told you the truth, they’d be out of jobs” lol! Such a cynic. Anyways, my surgeon has me on a rehab protocol that says by week 5-6 post surgery I’ll be doing some resistance training. But as for Oly…who knows! I’m guessing in 2 months I can ease back in?

Sarah! Oh girl, the “long road ahead” haha - yeah…that just became my reality yesterday.

Kmac - Superjock sex bomb? Woot woot! Sex Bomb is one of my favorite kareoke songs. lol!

And thanks again all! Many of you know what I’m going through - so glad I’m not ridin’ solo! Giddyup.

Yesterday I had the followup apt with my surgeon. It was bittersweet.

Good in that all is excellent, and he was super happy with himself when he saw his handy work on the xrays. Bad in that I simply was not prepared for what the rehab/recovery would be like.

The brace, as my surgeon put it, will be my new best friend for the next 6 weeks. Essentially, it stays on 24/7 and then later unlocks while sitting, and then further down the road, unlocks while walking. How I didn’t realize this brace was going to be part of the rehab is beyond me. And I’m a researcher FFS! Honestly, if I had known I’d be wearing this brace, I would have considered waiting a few months - its summertime! My favorite season! pout

Anyways, the doc said, a successful surgery is “50 percent my job and 50 percent your job, so don’t be a pussy” (paraphrasing of course). He checked me out, I have some fairly good ROM and he wants me starting rehab stat, as well as getting on to the leg bendy device. We also had a big lol when he was asked me to fire my quads. He wasn’t kidding when he said that they “shut down” after surgery. Then while I was hobbling out of the office with my crutches, he took one away from me and told me to “put some weight on that shit.” And now I walk! lol! He’s kind of an evil genius.

Anyways, my first rehab is on Friday and I’m too nervous to get on the leg bendy device quite yet since I want to be manually manipulated first (hi-o!), so (as per the doc’s suggestion) I started doing some rehab to straighten out my leg. I’m motivated, so that’s good.

I won’t lie, I had a mini breakdown last night when the reality of it all hit me - Big girls DO cry, but then they get over themselves and get on with it.

Note: For the faint at heart, you might want to skip the vid below. I have a bit of a morbid fascination, so I find these things amusing.

I’m morbidly fascinated, but can’t see the video. pout.

My hubby’s surgeon, when addressing him after putting a bunch of pins in his broken-to-hell ankle, said “you get the recovery you work for.” So if you work it like you know how, you’ll be better than new soon enough. I totally get the weepyness. You were hoping this wouldn’t be as hard. Understandable.

But channel Snapper. You want to be the outlier on the bell curve of good results. You want to be the best damn patient doctor-boy ever had. Right? RIGHT???

Today’s workout!

Pressing my heel into the leg bendy device - 3x20
Flexing/pointing toes - 3x12
Firing quads - 3x10 < I flexed the good leg as well as the naughty leg hoping that the good leg would act as a role model.
Straight leg lifting 5x0 < lulz!!

I shall repeat this workout tonight.

It will be amazing when I can see some of my quad strength come back. When’s that gonna happen?

Well at least you have a sense of humor about it. Glad to see you doing something  You’ll get it all back soon enough.

Right! I definitely have to channel my inner Snapper!

I should stop by her log, btw. Its been a while! And Vicki’s! I know she’s rehabbing now too…Need inspiration!

Meh. Morbid curiosity will have to go unsatisfied, the vid doesn’t seem to work! I’d put it on youtube, but that weird injured leg fetish guy is weird (no offense to anyone who’s fetish is injured legs, btw).

Oh well - just me showing some rehab and how my quad has decided to quit this bitch. No biggie.

Ironcross! Hi! Thanks for stopping in. I should come visit you too! I’m a bad TN friend :frowning:

hahahaha Damn! you’re on to me

Glad to hear that you’re on the rehab train already. Its going to be a relatively long and painful process but the more work you put in the sooner you’ll be back to normal Mascherano.

you’re a hard worker though so you’ll be back in no time. Keep on keepin on masch

Weight bearing already! You go girl.

NOT having a breakdown at some point probably wouldn’t even be normal. Now go heel press the shit out of that bendy thing, hotstuff!

put the video on private so only those with the link can see it, like kimba does.

i has weird morbid fascination, too!! share share share!!

also, the breakdown of how painkillers work is that they dont kill the pain, they interrupt the signals from the site of pain to your brain. which is why they wont be recreational if youre actually IN pain, and why theyre so fucking addictive. people have a tendency to want to quit, shut down, relax, etc (alcohol!) and “pain killers” are excellent at that.

theyre also incredibly dehydrating, which is why puff couldnt poop. /geek pharmacy mode

Reminds me of my ankle work outs after the titanium leg upgrade.

I would think you will be back at 100% in under 6 months.

awwww, ((hugs))

You’re a warrior. Best of luck with your rehab miss, your attitude is excellent and it’s always so so sweet to get a supportive device off!

Also the cues on Nlmains log were the coaching I got from my training partner Scott who is a top 10er on powerlifting watch so when he talks I listen and I can say as someone who pulls 100 under what they do conventional, sumo mostly due to form deficiencies it is a valuable cue, especially for getting into a good position for locking out.

pics of your leg is requested.

make that a demand.

thats right, demand.

I double dare you~

This is also amazing to hear, that she is weight bearing already is a great sign.

Keep going girl. I know you like the rugby boys, so here you go…

Sorry to hear about the surgery. I tore my acl twice while playing soccer. Its all about being dedicated to recovery. From reading previous posts you don’t have a problem sticking to a plan. Just follow the exercises and your strength, mobility, and size will return.

Is it wrong of me to be daydreaming of the fact you can’t run very far at the moment

get better soon Lovely.

Lol! Lula! I press my heel like a mutha fucking champ!

Cbear - interesting! I like geek pharma bear! Maybe I’ll try these oxy’s for fun later down the line (with a pinot grigio to keep it classy). If you don’t hear from me, please stage an intervention. Nah. Actually, I watched a show on pharma addiction and people pay $80 for one pill! That’s crazy talk! I’ll probably just give them to one of my friends who has rheumatoid arthritis.

Bear Born - welcome! And thanks. Yeah, everytime I get a chance to take off the brace I’m happy for it. I imagine its what rec time is like in prison - without the shanking, of course. And yes, part of the reason I love this site is that I get to glean all sorts of cues and stuff off of other people. So, thanks!

Putzyx - 2 ACL tears! Sweet lord. I’m sorry :frowning: I’ve actually been mulling over whether or not I want to play soccer after this…I’m going to be 31, do I really need to go though this again? But then again, its my sport, I’ve been playing it since I was 5! I always envisioned myself playing well into my 40s…decisions, decisions…

Nadia and Max, thanks for the vote of confidence! And I’m happy to say that today I walked 4 blocks to the market and back with my cane. Baby steps.

And of course, Max and Mainy - sigh. I love this log. tear

Busy and MiM - thanks guys!

And for you [injured] leg men out there (Edgy and Greg!) - my rebellious little quad. Fire, damnit, Fire!

Rehab is coming along.

Today I did the same leg straightening stuff from yesterday and I was actually able to lift my leg! YAY! It wasn’t fully straightened but at least it came off the floor. shrug

Also, I manned up and went on the leg bendy device despite my trepidation. Double YAY! I don’t know why I was so scared, so silly. It actually felt good since everything feels so tight. Mind you, I only worked up to 36 degrees, which is nothing, but whatever. I broke my cherry! And as we all know, the first time ain’t never anything special…

The doc wants me to do 2 hours of leg bendy a day btw. Such a time suck. But every day you’re supposed to bend a bit further, so tomorrow i’m going to be a little more daring and hit 40 degrees. Such a dare devil!

Also, when I “walked” to the market today I had a guy holler at me. However, instead of the normal cat call he yelled “anterior cruciate ligament or lateral meniscus?!” Slightly amused, I yelled back “both!” to which he replied “Poor baby…” and made a sad face. HAHA! NYers are so fucking weird.

That’s it folks. I’ll report back after my first rehab session on Friday.

Til then, stay cool, my friends wink

plz for you to read me a bedtime story with the cute little squeaks in there somehow?

(better or worse than the weirdos? eek.)

and, $1/mg is pretty standard for oxys. keep some in case you need em later. i have to tell you that its against federal law to dispense medication to anyone other than to whom it was prescribed.

like anything else, its not really illegal till you get caught.

I like your rehab. dont leave us behind.

Yay foot raises

as for staying cool its been fucking hot here the past two days-
ah the subway stank is back.

are you still rocking the pink cane??

cbear is right can we hearz a story in the rehab yay voice??

omfg.

that vid gave me the biggest happy smile ever. that was the cutest thing ever. and i don’t use the word cute a lot.

i actually just read a study, The Effect of Protein and Carbohydrate Supplementation on
Strength Training Outcome of Rehabilitation in ACL Patients

edit: also when you squealed, that reminded me of the movie Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, a classic movie filmed in Manhattan!
