Hey loverlies! I’m glad you liked the vid ![]()
I’m so sorry I haven’t been around much lately. I’ve been super focused on my recovery, which quite frankly, is incredibly time consuming. Physical therapy takes 1.5 hours from icing up, to icing down (which is insane if you ask me), plus I have to go 3x a week. On top of the that, I also have a bunch of exercises that I’ve been told to do at home everyday along with my leg bendy device.
The good news, though, is that everything is paying off! The leg bendy device has now been maxed out! I have reached 110 degrees of flexion - i still have to use it though, but I’m sure by next week I’ll be off that bitch. Thank god, its cluttering up my living room!! I fucking hate clutter.
Anywho, Friday I had my first PT session and it went really well. I whimpered. A LOT. But according to my PT, she could’ve made me cry if she wanted, so she was doing me a favor eye roll
Essentially PT involves ice, massage, electro stim, a bunch of exercises geared towards waking up the quad, gaining ROM in the knee, extension, flexion, etc. They even made me get on the “short range” bike for 10 minutes. And the kicker (pun intended!), is that PT lady taught me how to walk without the brace! I was unsteady at first and looked like a total robot, but now, I feel much more confident standing and walking around that I can even do it without my pimp cane! I don’t do it that often, mind you - erring on the side of caution - but now when I have my brace off at home, I don’t feel the need to put it on just go to the bathroom or fix a bevvie, plus I can also do things like, you know, SHOWER! And that makes life much more bearable…(for me and those around me).
At any rate, PT lady says she’s going to put me on a real bike next sesh, as well as start weighting some of the exercises, most of which are pretty easy for me - especially since they’re total Jane Fonda moves. I mean, hello?! The hardest exercise, of course, is raising my leg while on my back (as shown in the vid). Good news is I can totes raise it now! Bad news is it fucking kills me! Especially on my hip flexors. wtf?
Week 2 - post surgery:
As of now, these are my mini-goals (this is what I’ve been reduced too btw):
-
Walk WITHOUT my brace by week 4 - I’ll settle for in-brace but completely ambulatory. In fact, I’ll even settle for either of those two, and sleeping with it locked at night.
-
Be able to take a pilates mat-based class (no machines) by week 4.
and finally,
- I made the executive decision that I need a vacation, so I’m going to visit my friend and his wife in Puerto Rico for my birthday. This coincides with Week 5 Post-op, so I’m shooting for NO BRACE for travel.
I talked these over with my PT lady and she’s behind me. Now I just have to clear them with my surgeon. He’s such a hard-ass though! But I think if I can show him some significant quad firing, he just might be persuaded…fingers crossed y’all!
Lastly, the food situ - as some of you may have seen, I dropped a few pounds post surgery. Unfortunately, that also made my face incredibly gaunt, which actually doesn’t look good on me. Anyways, this was thanks in part to feeling like death on a door mat. But I’m happy to report that my appetite has come back and I’m looking a bit more like Mascherano. The only thing is, and I didn’t mention this before, I’ve actually switched to eating vegetarian/pescatarian (had some sashimi over the weekend - yum!). I know it sounds crazy, but before I went into surgery I decided that I didn’t want over-work my system with digestion when I really needed the energy to recuperate. Plus, I wasn’t bout to keep with the warrior diet, what with all the pills I was going to be stuffing down my throat. So I went back to one of the first diets I had ever went on when I was wee 18 year old - The Blood Diet!
I’m type A, so that makes me mostly vegetarian with some fish and dairy - basically the Mediterranean diet. lol! So far, I feel great! Which is no surprise because I’m consuming tons of big juicy carbs from all sorts of yummy fruits and veg and yogurt (if theres a time to be a vegetarian its the summer). I haven’t craved for a single day a piece of animal meat, which is insane considering that I alone could support the nation’s pork industry…the only thing is, I don’t supplement with vits and things. UGH! I hate pills. But I’ll cross the anemia bridge when I get there. So far, so good though and don’t “appear” to have gained or lost a pound. Just slowly atrophying. LOL! I just pray that I don’t start getting those weird skinny-fat sausage limbs…shudder In fact, I think you should all pray that I don’t get skinny-fat sausage limbs! Thanks in advance.
Anyways, again, I’m so SO sorry that I’m not around more - you guys are the best! And I WILL visit all of y’alls in the next few days when I get some time and don’t feel so tired and introspective. So please, don’t feel like I’m being a neglectful cunt! I’m just being a selfish, introverted cunt ![]()
Hope everyone is staying cool - have a great one out there! I’ll catch up with y’all soon!
ps. Today’s my first day back at work btw - look at me go!
pps. I went to the pool this weekend on Sat and Sun! Nothing will stop me from getting my tan on! HAH! Next week I’ll try the beach…
