The Avengers attack on adopted children is mean and unfunny
PANAMA CITY, Fla., May 17, 2011 ? The lame joke at the expense of adopted kids in the movie The Avengers isn?t just mean, it?s something perhaps worse: unfunny.

The Avengers has scored big at the box office. However, it has fallen flat with an increasingly number of child advocates across America. The reason? This exchange in the film:

The Black Widow character says, “[Loki] killed 80 people in two days.” Then Thor, Loki’s brother, replies, “He’s adopted.”

Ha, ha. That?s the laugh line. Whether you have a child who is adopted or not, the fact is the line just isn?t that funny.

Its nice that that was what bothered those groups. Not the almost total destruction of NYC. See its groups like this that make me want to fill up a tube sock full of tennis balls and go on a National “Up side your head” smack fest.
Golf balls would work better.
Pool balls even better.
WOW!..Steel, Rouge you guys are Harsh hahahahahahahah

Personally, I was offended whenever I saw Black Widow beat up a man. Everyone knows girls can’t fight. It ruined my movie immersion.

You are confusing the scenes. Thor made that comment before they argued in Banner’s and Stark’s lab.

I agree, hilarious spin on the line. I am offended by their lack of comprehension as they are offended by the scene.

If misinterpretation is en vogue, shouldn’t the ACLU be hunting down the Cap’t for tipping Nick Fury upon entering the command center? I thought that was a hilarious cultural reference.
I thought he gave Fury the money because of the bet they made earlier in the movie?

Going to see this again tomorrow night.

Damn. My son comes home from college for a few days (I expected to see The Avengers with him), then he’s off again with a colleague for the summer.

I guess I’ll go see the film alone. All by myself. Solo. Stag.

It was because of the bet they made earlier in the movie…no tipping of any sort…LMAO at that

What, you must have missed the scene where Cap says to Fury “Boy, get my shield”, then put black face on and sang “Mammy”

Did he really? I coulda sworn he said it while they were all arguing. Well, just another reason for me to go see it again

Oh, and he wasn’t tipping him, he was giving him the money he owed for winning their bet earlier in the movie. About Cap seeing some things that will amaze him.
Plus Fury got shot in the opener then pulled out a blood-tipped bullet: he wasn’t wearing a vest.

I do it too. My wife doesn’t like to see cool movies so I go by myself if my friends are busy and I’m not sure it’s appropriate for my 10 year old son. I don’t see what the big deal is, most people wouldn’t think twice about watching a DVD by themselves.

I have no issue with it at all. The last 3 action movies I’ve seen have been in 3 dif states because of traveling alone on family biz and its a relaxing way to chill for a couple hours and watch the other guys play hero.

Just remember when you jump aim for the bushes

I am glad this movie did well. Comic books and graphic novels have been filled with ridiculously great ideas for decades now.

Hollywood is out of material.

We are about to get hit with a TON of this shit now.

I agree, but with that comes a lot of potential disasters. Look at how they raped Superman’s character in Superman Returns…
I can’t find the words for how they messed that one up. How about Green Lantern? The Punisher? Daredevil?

I am hoping with you though that there will be plenty of awesome as well

I’m OK with a lot of superhero movies as well as a lot of others.

It makes it more like the old days in the 30s and 40s when there’d be a new episode of your favorite serial every week.

So I say bring on a new Spider-Man and try to keep these big movies at sequels every 2 years, if not 18 months like the Harry Potter movies were.

I mean like James Bond…I don;t want 4 years between movies. Same with Star Trek…that one in 2009 was incredibly entertaining and it’s been 3 years already (the second is coming out next year).

I want Avengers 2 in 2014.

Yeah I know!!!

Silly me for forgetting the bet made very early in the movie and thinking it was another cultural reference to Cpt. America…

It would have been ironically funny even if that had been the case, considering Fury is the DIRECTOR of SHIELD. But I’m sure your head was already there, probably appreciating my SNL take on the scene.
