One of the scenes is a meeting with Peggy Carter and Captain America in the present day, Whedon got rid of it because it made the film too Cap heavy
Yeah it’s mostly Cap capers. Joss Whedon initially considered making Cap a narrator to have the audience adjust to an unfamiliar world (meaning comic newbs) through him. It’s a master stroke. Cap knows jack about pop culture so Whedon explained the references through him without getting preachy.
The WIzard of Oz joke was probably a leftover of that where Cap says “I get that”

I agree. Cap would’ve seen that and it was a reference to his origin story.
On the other side of it you’ve got Stark unleashing a barrage of pop cultural references on the gods of Asgard:
[spoilers]
Reindeer Games, Shakespeare in the park, Rock of Ages and (my fave) Point Break.
come on guys. wolverine and spiderman are to marvel as batman is to DC. they’re possibly the most badass characters in comic book history! (k maybe spiderman is not as badass as the other two. but i guess he is pretty damn popular as most people could imagine themselves in his shoes. i.e geeky school kid)
BTW, if i’m fighting the big boss from end-credits clip (t*****), hell if i’d want the black widow and hawkeye by my side. actually if it really came down to that, i highly doubt the avengers would be able to stop him. only thor and hulk would be able to have ANY chance against him.

I like the whole Spider-Man premise, what with his abilities not being almighty and him thus having to rely on his resourcefulness, but he’s too much of a drama queen and a wuss to boot. Even as a kid I didn’t get why he didn’t just OFF the villains, well, at least repeat offenders. No, he almost always had to deliver the culprits in neatly webbed packages.
Funny, but so inefficient.
Wolverine is somewhat more efficient, but he’s also a lot older and experienced than Parker and had a rougher upbringing.
I don’t see how he might be Marvel’s Batman pendant, though: he’s more feral, unpredictable, doesn’t rely on gadgetry and has an anti-authoritarian streak.

It was a postmodern dig at Loki’s horns, the title of a Ben Affleck movie and:
Lots of people questioned how well the look of certain characters would translate to live-action. Joss Whedon addresses the more dubious elements of the costumes by referencing them directly.
Cap questions his own costume, which echoes the doubts that his look was out-of-date.

I would have to say his modern costume was my only complaint, Cap’s stripes go all the way around(and there are 13 of them), the 50’s Cap who became the Grand Director his stripes ended at his sides like this one and so looking at the costume reminded me of that costume too much

the reason he didn’t off them is probably the same as why batman doesn’t off his villians. it’s all about justice. yea, it helps alot that he’s not just some overpowered hero which can own everyone else (coughsupermancough)
what’s cool is that wolverine and spiderman have a pretty damn good relationship/friendship/mentorship going on! there was this comic where wolverine invited spiderman for a drink, and didn’t tell him why. turned out it was wolverine’s bday and he wanted to spend it with someone. pretty cool huh?
Just saw this. The interplay between characters is what made this movie and is why it worked. if they had failed at having logical arguments and “real” discussions, this would have been one big bust. The fact that a project like this even came together at all is amazing, but to see it done well…that’s pretty much historic.

May Joss Whedon Direct & write every marvel Sequel, please and thank you.

I’m happy with Shane Black writing and directing IM3, but they should give Joss Whedon at least one solo movie to show what he can do…

They are also worth the most, which is why they were sold off first and will be the last to return to Marvel.

Not if more movies are made by the studio then the rights stay which is why having that wolverine cameo in first class was so important to them it gave the studio time to make another wolverine film. I think fantastic four or daredevil will revert before Spiderman or wolverine.
