Marvel or DC

Does anyone prefer one over the other? Or have an intense dilike for one but not the other. Since I’ve started playing hero clix, I’ve been reminded how many people have a bug up there ass about DC. Marvel seems more popular on this board given the fact that there are many more screen names that pertain to Marvel than DC.

Oooh, boy. When I began reading comic books back in the 70’s my preference was definitely Marvel. Considering the fact that just about ANY change I got was saved for the sole purpose of buying my Daredevil, X-Men, Avengers comic books.

Now, I look for the books that contain decent art but a great story. Marvel's got the advantage of late due to the movies based on it's characters coming soon (The Hulk, Daredevil, X-Men 2, Spider-Man2), in development (The Punisher, Sub-Mariner), and previously released. As I have posted before, WB is trying to get on the ball AGAIN, and get some of DC characters either back on the screen or just on the screen.

I would say that Green Lantern, a DC Comics character, has been really good the last few years. Also, Wonder Woman, Batgirld, Birds of Prey and Justice League have been good. You gotta remember that DC also has Vertigo and Wildstorm comics. And the titles under those "brand names" have been good, as well.

With the proliferation of the independents as well as the "other guys" like Dark Horse, Black Bull, Oni, Humanoids Publishing - Marvel and DC ain't battling themselves like the old days. Plus, writers like Grant Morrison, Kevin Smith, Dan Jurgens, and others (NOT Alan Moore, though, he's been very vocal about his distaste of Marvel), will write for either house.

As I said above: as long as the story is good, the art decent, it doesn't matter who's publishing it, I'll read it.

Gosh, I could go on: but maybe later, when I've got more time.

I’m a huge Marvel fan. I don’t really want to get into it all on this board. I don’t want to expose myself as the nerd I can be hehe. A T-nerd none-the-less I might add.

I think it’s dumb to not like both companies considering the same exact creative teams can be found doing work for both companies. The companies do have their ups in down though. In the 70’s the Avengers and X-men rocked. In the mid 90’s DC exploded with The Spectre, Starman, Hitman (where Natt the Hat comes from), and almost any Vertigo title (especially Preacher). In the late 90’s the team books made a comeback with Morrison’s JLA, Busiek’s Avengers, the Authority, JSA… Personally, I buy most of my titles by the creative team. It’s nice that Marvel has finally started putting the creative team on the cover.

not sure why but always been a fan of marvel. The few times i have read DC i was not very impressed with the art work. The best art work was Image when it was big, I loved Prophet.

When I was into comics back in the day I had a definite preference for Marvel. The only DC character that I really liked on a consistent basis was Batman, and that was because he usually got the best artists for some reason. The old Neil Adams stuff was fantastic, as was Marshall Rodgers’ (I hope I’m getting the spelling of these guys’ names right - it’s been a while) short-lived stint. When John Byrne took over Superman I bought that title. But mainly it was Marvel. 'Course, this was back in the 70’s and very early 80’s…

It’s a toss up. I agree with Patricia that the indies have great titles. I have always been a big Batman freak, and I feel that the plots are often very good. But I’ve also been a big Hulk and Conan buyer.

Is that the same Kevin Smith that is the director of Jay And Silent Bob Strike Back, Mallrats, Chasing Amy, and Dogma? Is that even his name? I need more sleep.=(

Yup, that be Kevin Smith. He’s written for DC Comics, and now he’s over at Marvel, writing Marvel Knights: Daredevil.

Speaking of Marvel, I hope some of you guys have been reading Grant Morrison's run on writing New X-Men. Just fantastic stuff.

OK…I saw Patricia’s pics and now have read her break down comics. I am feelin’ woozy and weak in the knees. I got a crush on you, girl!
