Well that is the quote of the day.
Nice PR.
What did you do to keep deadlift strength without deadlifting?
Turns out all I needed to do was bend over. Shrunk my midsection.
Thanks. Easy PR, just needed to eat less. Because I’m fat that doesn’t mean horrible measly amounts.
Apart from squatting? Well, the kettlebell swings might have helped and those reverse hypers during extra workouts probably didn’t hurt. Apart from that, just squatting. The thing is, my deadlift is pretty reasonable, and my technique is pretty good. A few weeks of not deadlifting isn’t going to make me lose strength to deadlift, especially if I’m training the deadlift muscles; and I won’t forget how to deadlift in that time. The movement was somewhat less familiar and I really had to think about jumping into the pull but the strength was there, where I would expect it to be at this time.
I’m basically looking for an excuse not to deadlift heavy. I’ve got pretty low hopes and goals for my deadlift this year so I’d like to commit as little time and recovery ability to it as possible without losing strength.
There is a huge difference between not deadlifting and not deadlifting heavy.
Not deadlifting heavy often is just plain smart.
You mean ‘handsome’
Also modest
Excellent banter
You could probably maintain on a 3x2 at ~80% done every other week. Maybe add 5lbs each workout if it felt super easy.
Another option would be a heavy single at RPE7 (~90%) every other or even every 3rd week.
Deadlifts don’t take a lot of up keep. My best deadlift came after a block so focused on Squats I didn’t deadlift for about a month and it was at the end of a mock meet.
Just jump on the deadlift program @MarkKO designed for me. Out of the top of my head, I think the highest you would have to go in the 16 weeks is 75%. It will probably build up a lot of weak points and you can get stronger in the long run without having to grind out heavy deadlifts
That sounds like a good deal. I’ll have a quick look and check it out
It’s on my log (cheap advertisement here) probably 100 posts or so up, haha.
I’m literally halfway to finding it already. A search function would be useful sometimes.
There is one mate. Search ‘reverse hyper’, select ‘search this topic’ and then you’re left with 3-5 posts
It’s the magnifying glass on the upper right corner of the screen
Not to mention the ol’ “site:t-nation.com [insert search query here]” option in Google.
That’s fancy, wouldn’t have thought of that tbh.
Woke at 256.2 lbs, looking a little bloated. Slept not so great which is probably why.
My traps have been sore AF all day. Still going.
They are just reminding you they are there !!
