Haha might not be a rant but it’s definitely a good common sense post! Pretty much my cutting diet at the moment, calories between 2400/2800 protein between 200/240g rest carbs and fats however they happen to take my fancy on the day and if that includes an Oreo cream egg then I log it and I eat less of something else. Works fine, works consistently, works simply (no crazy formulas) and it’s virtually painless I’m never deprived of something I want. I really don’t see it changing, if fat loss slows, drop cals slightly or increase expenditure consistently. It’s really not difficult.
It’s what I did when I got lean and what I’m doing now.
I favour lower fat/higher carb, but that’s because my gut doesn’t handle fat well. It’s also better in terms of performance.
Calories for me are 3200/day, although because I eyeball everything they could be anywhere between 2700-3700 in reality. I’m reasonably good at eyeballing because I spent three or so years actually weighing every damn thing, but that doesn’t mean I’m that accurate at all.
All I can say for sure is that my caloric intake is in a deficit sufficient to cause around 1.2-1.5 lbs of weight lost over a week.
Yea that’s the reason for my fluctuations, I’m not strict on logging, I’ll generally know if I’ve got half way through the day and not got enough protein and then retrospectively log stuff to make sure I hit it, or if I’ve eaten some crap food I’ll log it to inform my decisions later in the day. Not neurotic but like you it works and until it stops working I’ll keep doing it, at which point I’ll adjust (and may be more serious about logging).
Well, this is it. People aren’t using “IIFYM” in the literal sense. It’s actually IIGYEPWGMOYTG for most people, i.e. “If It Gives You Enough Protein Without Going Massively Over Your Target Calories.”
So these people will have a protein shake for breakfast, a chicken Subway for lunch and a 12" meatfeast pizza for dinner. Boom, IIFYM.
EDIT: this post genuinely made me instantaneously hungry.
Oh, I log everything I eat. I just don’t weigh anything. What I’ll do is enter everything except dinner while I make breakfast, so I don’t have to fuck around during the day. I try to eat pretty much the same thing for breakfast, morning tea and lunch every day.
I try to arrange things so that come dinner time, I’m not chasing protein. Dinner is when I’ll be the most hungry, and protein doesn’t keep me full so it’s nice to have a decent bit of carbs and fat left to play with
Yea consistency of meals makes life significantly easier - my morning is oats and berries that have been in yogurt overnight in the fridge with 60g unflavoured whey, lunch is more varied but usual something around tuna or beans and potato or bread and dinner is usually beef or chicken with rice pasta or potatoes (chilli, curry, cottage pie, etc), protein shake before bed, and protein and banana after training. Keep the staples similar each day and quantity similar and it’s easy to adjust to fit the needs.
It’s funny I enjoy reading about training and nutrition ad infinitum but the reality is basics never change and if you are consistent in the basics you’ll progress consistently. There is no magic formula no special programs, nothing but hard work with the basics consistently.
Do the simple things well.
Covers any endeavour really.
Yea but it’s much harder to market and make money selling the basics!
I like that you posted about diet on your cake day. Lmao ![]()
Six years. Geez. Thought it was five.
That was last year
I dunno.
Snake oil you can sell to someone once. Then you got to rebottle it in time for when they realise it didn’t work and come looking for another trick.
If something works, you can sell it over and over again to the same person. Plus they’ll tell their friends.
Bingo. I can drink protein shakes and choose poor carb sources all day long.
Yes that’s true, much like the food and diet, consistent results (from a quality coach/program) trump gimmicks and fads in the long term then sales will follow (hopefully!)
Happy cake day by the way!
I am on a special Corona Diet now, which consists of me eating a small lunch, alternating between having a big dinner or just skipping it entirely, and then making up the rest of my macro via chips and alcohol in the evenings. It seems to be working nicely so far, I haven’t killed one person yet.
This is why it gets a bad rep. But for everything else you said it really shouldnt. TBH anybody who has a Protein target is using IIFYM.
People underestimate the difficulty of this. I have Space Brownies to keep me “grounded” tee hee
I initially read that as “to kill someone is harder than you think. Like I’ve tried and thought it would be easier”. Luckily the brownies cleared that up ![]()
Well…maybe that is exactly what he meant.
He does live in Mexico… No racism (or whatever it is called when you insult someone for their nationality and not their race) intended.
We’re in a pandemic, let he among us that has not wanted to crush the skull of some old dude crowding us in the supermarket aisle cast the first stone.
Shit, I had to edit that crap post three times.
