This is exactly why I avoid loaded movements in the morning. I can actually feel pain in my spine when I train early in the morning. I don’t even squat or do anything loaded anymore - just jogging my warm up lap hurts. It goes away quickly but it’s a reminder not to get under the barbell first thing in the morning.
I had to stop my AM workouts because of this.
I think for most people who don’t already have a back problem you would be OK to squat or deadlift maybe an hour or so after waking up, warmup sets with light weight will push the fluid out of your spine and as long as you aren’t rounding your back on them they should be fine. It’s just that getting right out of bed and doing bodyweight squats or worse, something like stretches where you bend down and touch your toes, that is likely to be a problem. Of course if it doesn’t feel good then it probably isn’t good ether.
One thing McGill mentioned in one of his is how rowers typically train first thing in the morning and it’s something that involves repeated spinal flexion, that is a recipe for back pain. Jogging actually puts a lot of compressive force on the spine and other joints due to the repeated impact, and apparently sprinting can expose you to much higher forces than you would ever experience with squatting or deadlifting.
Unfortunately, I’m in the category of people with a back injury. I sprained my SI joint and discovered my bulged disc back in 2014 and haven’t been the same since. I can train normally, but I definitely have a lot more aches and pains.
You should eventually be able to get back to normal, those things heal. Maybe read McGill’s book “Back Mechanic” and follow his advice there. My back was fucked up in the summer and now I’m squatting and deadlifting mid 500’s for reps
Woke at 262.8 lbs, looking less bloated.
@Chris_Ottawa, thanks for that. Definitely wouldn’t be trying anything flexion related on waking.
I’m good. My SI joint likes to get out of place on occasion but it’s usually a simple fix. I’m planning to pull 500+ tomorrow or Saturday. It’s time to see if The Daily Dose of Deadlift has brought my strength back to pre shoulder surgery levels.
Ok, anyone who knows about this shit: I want to basically turn my Facebook off apart from the Team Panora group. Anyone know how to do that?
Is there some kind of ‘unfollow all’ option?
I don’t believe you can, I deleted my facebook quite some time ago and don’t miss it other than local marketplace, it might be worth making a second one just to have that group.
Or you’re able to individually mute people indefinitely I believe from what I remember.
Also been away on vacation, glad everything is coming together and your backs better man!
Best of luck
But I like your atheist humor things you share! Haha, but I get it. I don’t use facebook much anymore. I prefer Instagram.
I think I’m just going to mute a bunch of people. My feed seems to be made up almost entirely of either waaaaay far left uber-progressives or super far right ultra conservatives, with a smattering of people who think dogs are more important than people.
Which is my fault, obviously.
I’m honestly only on there for the inappropriate jokes.
I’ve simply reduced my friends list down to a few dozen. Before that, I had manually unfollowed everyone which was a bit tedious.
That’s another, less labour intensive possibility.
I’ll get in early and wish you the best of luck for the weekend Mark. Can’t wait to read about how you went. Go smash it.
I wish there was, but Zukerlord will not allow it. Lots of usefulness in FB, but like yours, mine is too crowded with crap to be manageable these days. I deactivated mine 3 years ago and haven’t looked back.
3 years ago for me too. Was worried I’d go on a shooting spree if I had to ask one more person if they’d even done the slightest bit of follow up before resharing a completely made-up article. And like @markko I was dealing with half far left and half far right people, all of whom were living in their own echo chambers because Facebook just listens to what you like and feeds you more of it from every corner of the internet until you’re fat and happy and full of hate for anyone who believes anything else.
Mark, just delete your Facebook, make another and follow team panora with it.
I think this might be a nationality thing? Like Mark, you are probably one of my most active facebook friends … Proceeded by big Tim (also Australian). Other than that my facebook feed consists of “x commented that”, “y liked that”, advertimesemnt, posts of sites I follow, my facebook groups… And more ads!
You can click on the arrow on the top right of the screen, choose news feed preferences, then unfollow who you want. It will be a click per unfollow but that shouldn’t take more than a minute or two to get it done
It’s been said several times now, I’ll echo Easiest is to make a new account, follow Team Panora on that and delete the one you’re using now.
I’m really excited for you right now Mark. Just do your thing Mate, stand up and show who’s the Boss.
Woke at 262.4 lbs, definitely looking less bloated. Getting ready to drive up to Newcastle.
So, looks like 3200 cal/day is a good starting point. Today I’ll get in a bunch of sodium as best I can, make sure I’m hydrated as hell and also full of carbs.
And yeah, probably going to set up a new Facebook.
