MarkKO's Training Log

I definitely think it would help. It promotes blood flow, is naturally anti-microbial, and more things I don’t wanna Google lol

Todays training

No circuit, don’t want to use more energy than I need to

3x10 bracing hip thrusts, in between sets did air squats and some shoulder distraction and the SuperD double band thing

Wide stance squat
Worked up to
6x372 lbs
6x374 lbs

They are odd numbers. Because, initially I thought I had to use 374 lbs. Except I misloaded the bar, with a 1.25 kilo plate on the right but a 2.5 kilo on the left; then after my first set I saw it was meant to be 380 lbs, so I added the requisite 1.25 kilo plate, to the left side. Forgot the right. Again.

So both sets were a little too light and I don’t care. The bar was also unbalanced, and I thought it just wasn’t centred. I don’t care about that either.

Goblet squats
2x20x24 lbs

Band good mornings
100 reps: 40, 2x30

Lying leg curl against bands
4x15

BB row
2x10x132 lbs - couldn’t be bothered to load more plates so instead squeezed at the top and lowered for a threeish count. Lat contraction achieved

Standing crunch
3x20x66 lbs

Brace and hold
8x5 seconds

All up an hour and 25 minutes

despite the misloading, a solid session Mark.

Thanks man. Yeah, I was happy with it. Got through it, did the work. It’s been a funny week but in terms of training a good one.

Good to know even the smart people get the maths wrong sometimes.

What is this? Something like that? Look usefull and I have a band in one of my gyms. When I use a barbell always has chance to round my lumbar area. This look safer.

Exactly like this. Except I look much more miserable doing it.

With the rounding your back, I mean, sure, you might round your lumbar spine when doing barbell good mornings. Same with deadlifts and squats and barbell rows. If you brace correctly, that won’t happen.

I have a suspicion you’re kind of paranoid about rounding your back but everything I’ve seen you do has been with good technique. I don’t think you need to worry.

All that being said, I would NEVER do 100 good mornings with a barbell, unless perhaps Greg told me to and it was an empty bar.

I do actually think this is something Louis Simmons does. On the horizon perhaps

I mean, I wouldn’t put it past Greg to get us to do it. I don’t see how it would be much worse than with a band.

I still remember that time he gave us 50x50% deadlifts with 10 second rests as needed. That wasn’t fun.

Woke at 261 lbs, looking a bit less bloated than yesterday. Throat feels the best it has in days too.

Good news. Enjoy the weekend

I got a few days behind but those deadlift numbers and pendlay rows stuck out to me. 490+ for reps and 260+ on a row is big weight. It’s amazing how far you’ve come since I first started following you. I’m inspired and irritated with myself all at the same time.

First off @Frank_C thank you. It really does mean a lot.

Don’t be irritated at yourself though. For one, your physique blows mine out of the water and always has done. While you might say you can’t get away from needing to be lean long, I can’t get away from needing to be stronger long. Either of us can do both, but be miserable doing so.

Second, I haven’t had the injuries you’ve had to deal with. At worst, my back was slightly compromised. Yes, I’ve got the apnea that I only now starting dealing with (and we’re seeing what looks to be a performance improvement in line with that which may or may not be a cause-effect relationship) but my joints and muscles haven’t stopped working. You’ve had surgery twice in the last two years I think, if not the last 18 months.

I’m also really single-minded. I don’t look for anything out of my training and nutrition apart from results on the platform. That’s somewhat that really crystallised in the last two years, which is when I’ve progressed the most.

None of this is making excuses for you. I’ve got too much respect for you to do that. It’s just stating facts.

Woke at 260.6 lbs, looking slightly more bloated than yesterday. Throat is better but feel tired still. CPAP seal was fine overnight so probably something to do with whatever this illness is as it gets better. Definitely woke congested.

Woke at 261.7 lbs, still looking a bit bloated. Still somewhat congested but throat is about normal.

Didnt do sprints yesterday, partly because it was wet but mostly because I figured I’d be better advised to give myself another day to fully recover. It’s deload week anyway, so I’ll probably just tack some conditioning onto whatever days I train (I’m thinking twice, Tuesday and Thursday. Tuesday squat and bench, which will take maybe a half hour, then some sled work or sometgng. Thursday accessory day).

Hum. Had time today so did conditioning. Kind of. Weighted walk (65 lbs munchkin) for a bit, some slow run for a bit and then sprints.

11x30 metres up 10 degrees

Something kind of clicked today with speed off the line, and I think I ended up doing these much closer to 85 per cent as a result. Wasn’t noticeably harder by the end either, and it was only around eight that I started sucking some wind. Recovery was quick too.

So win there.

You’re not going to secretly turn into a runner are you?

Woke at 262.8 lbs, looking a little less bloated I think. Throat is still pretty much fine, which is what I was hoping for.

@dagill2 not a chance. I just want to be sure I can move quickly, and the conditioning seems to help pretty much everything.

Your little sprinting sessions will do your body really good. Mark.
Keep at it every now and then. Moving fast over short distances should also be beneficial for being explosive with a barbell.

That’s exactly why I do it once a week now @mortdk
