MarkKO's Training Log

Something went in my lower back while putting my shorts on. Fucking brilliant.

Today’s training

Air squats and planks

Squat, mono
5xbar
5xplate/143 lbs
5x2 plates/231 lbs
2x10x291 lbs - pickup feels nasty AF but I can brace well enough to protect my lower back

Oooooh boy here comes the nausea

Narrow stance squat, feet two inches closer in
2x10x291 lbs - belt on for these. Both sets tried beltless and about a quarter way down back said nope. Felt fine belted.

Front squat
12x154 lbs

Low box squat
3x6x330 lbs - again, belted felt OK.

Single leg SLDL
10xbar
10x88 lbs
2x10x110 lbs

These sort of made by back feel better.

Alternating DB hammer curls
4x15x20 lbs

By now walking, moving, standing just felt wrong. Had to brace to walk, basically.

Took two hours. Worst session I’ve had in ages.

Stretched a ton more when I got home, helped heaps. Seems to be that my hamstrings were tight AF and that resulted in this bullshit. Spending most of yesterday on the couch probably didn’t help either.

Way to gut through it. That’s a lot of squats!

When is your next squat session?

Next Monday. Although Thursday’s deadlifts will be interesting.

Back pump or does it feel more severe?
I had something similar a few months ago, lifted my leg up on the bed to put my socks on and it pinched something, was doing back that day
Could only use machines that supported my chest and allowed me to brace, that killed

More severe. Like a tingling kind of pull when I move a certain way. It’s happened before. Sucks but nothing major.

Hopefully it’s nothing major mate,

Yeah hopefully it isn’t severe and you’ll be back in no time.
Take care mate

Yeah, it’s just something putting pressure on a nerve. Those things aren’t important

Sucks about your back. Hopefully it isn’t anything too bad. Quick recovery mate!

Btw. so you know a strength/ PL coach in Australia (Brisbon area) by the name of Tim O’Shea?

Woke at 238.9 lbs, wateriness gone and less bloated. Back is significantly improved, the tingling is considerably reduced (see @Frank_C) and more just tight and a little sore. I did decide to ditch training today and go tomorrowrrow instead just to be safe. It’s bench, but no sense in taking unnecessary risks.

Thanks for the well wishes everyone.

Put your upside down hanging apparatus back to use! It seems to help me to prioritize spinal decompression when my back is feeling tweaked.

I did it yesterday, but TBH it didn’t do that much. I think the tweak in the back was symptomatic of my glutes taking a day off (pricks) and my hamstrings being way tighter than I realised.

I’m impressed and happy that you took a day off! Smart work beats hard work in the end.

I figured I could have benched today, but given how much my back improved over yesterday I also figured I would be better of giving it another day.

Probably smart. Bench seems to aggravate my back the most out of the lifts when I try and work through the pain. Arching and leg drive seems to upset my back if there is an existing tweak.
