Hungry AF tonight. I know I don’t need to eat, but fuck. Hermestas and coffee creamer helping a ton.
I figured it was worth mentioning since my scale weight is going up steadily. I haven’t put up photos for a bit because I need a shave to get an accurate idea of things - which of course means I’m definitely not leaner than last check-in. I don’t think I’m fluffier either though.
I keep wondering if I should up my calories but I keep deciding against it. I’m walking for around 45 minutes every morning now (with dog), which is pretty much my only conditioning but it’s a brisk walk. My training is fast paced too (or relatively at least). Also, let’s assume I’m around 15 per cent bodyfat (not that the number matters, except for the following). That means at 212ish lbs on the scale my lean mass is around 180 lbs - it definitely isn’t higher, maybe a tad lower. So, maintenance calories for my lean mass sit between 2500 and 3000 cal/day. At 2900 cal/day I’m exactly where I should be.
Also, Halo combat figurines can’t squat for shit. Their hip, knee and ankle mobility is garbage. Best I could get was a maybe two inch high box squat with a fairly wide stance. Don’t even get me started on the shoulder mobility…
Are you playing a naked halo figure game !!! Lol
Try pulling sumo?
You should push your calorie intake when your weight gain stalls/slows down - it’s kind of like progressive overload, but for your metabolism. So when you are gaining under quarter of a pound per week or so, just add 50-100 calories to your diet.
(And it really works, how else could a 140 pound girl be dieting on 2700 Calories per day? for reference: that’s my gf)
As Dante is saying, keep the intake were it is, you’re gaining.
Remember when losing weight, you played around with 100 calories and only took out more Cal’s when you didn’t decrease on the scale. Same thing the other way around.
Woke at 209.9 lbs, looking a hell of a lot tighter than I have in a while. So, yeah, staying at these calories. It’s a no brainer.
Multicultural festival today with Mrs KO before work so I’ll be interesting to see what mirror and scale say tomorrow morning (@painter27 knows what I’m talking about). Pretty sure I stayed within budget and just about within macros too; I’m also hungry again, so I’m taking that as a good sign.
You cutting?
Woke at 211.2 lbs, looking decent again. Bloat and wateriness all but gone.
@losthog I’m not cutting but definitely trying not to add too much fat while I grow. In some respects leaning out is easier, because you’re in a deficit and all you need to do is stay there. I mean, it’s mentally harder and it sucks, but it’s simple. Trying to add muscle without adding too much fat is trickier because you need to play with stuff more. That’s what I’ve found, anyway.
Lamb’s liver, paprika and chilli fritatta with mostly egg whites
Also, had a look through my macros the last few days and three things stood out: one, my protein way lower, around one to 0.8 grams per pound of estimated LBM; two, I started eating veggies properly again, which I’d gotten slack with; and three, all this coincided with marginally higher fat intake, although still low overall at no more than 25 per cent of daily calories. To me, that’s too strong a link with the disappearance of my bloat and wateriness to ignore, so I’ve tweaked my macro targets to reflect this. In short, lowered protein to 180 g/day and increased carbs to 400 g/day. Won’t change fat from 65 g/day, but I will be more willing to overshoot that target by 10-15 grams or so.
Fun thing you mention, that a bit over in regards to fat, does not equal fat gain.
I think I see a similar pattern, I don’t follow my diet as closely, but enough to see the same.
Btw when do you stop this mass phase and start a phase more directed to power?
Mass is power @mortdk
I’ll keep going until I can’t get any more lean mass, I figure that’ll be around 242 lbs or thereabouts. Then I’ll probably shed some fat and build back up again.
You will be a beast at 242 Mark.
This is all conjecture, of course. I’m 30 odd pounds short of that mark, I’m just going by what I see which is I need a LOT more mass. I might have shed the bloat at around a pound in the last few days, but the trend is that I’m going up. I think the rate is between two and five pounds a month.
I never stay within budget when I go… food or financially
.
You and I both. Worth it though, especially this time.
I like this.
Lets see you stick to it ![]()
Ohh Mark will. One of the most determined guys around here.
