How have the quad gains been? I have gained a lot on my legs this cycle, though I am not sure how much of that is just me getting my legs back up to peak performance, and how much of that is new muscle.
Incline press, press grip
10xbar
8x88 lbs
2x10x154 lbs, 6, 8 RPE
8x176 lbs, 9 RPE - miscommunication and misload: I just loaded the bar without looking and Tom loaded what I loaded. Seems like I loaded a 22 lbs plate instead of an 11 lbs plate. Only realised when loading for the fourth set and noticed Tom putting on a 22 lbs plate and asked why he was doing that. Either way, it worked out nicely. I’m counting this as equivalent to 10x154 lbs
2x10x154 lbs, 8, 8-9 RPE
Work sets done 14 minutes. Up to 165 lbs next week.
Seated DB press supersetted with DB rows
Press 3x12x45 lbs - up to 50 lbs next week
Rows 3x12x135 lbs, first two sets hook grip and last set regular grip. Staying here next week
Chest supported DB raises supersetted with pull-ups
Raises 10x10x20 lbs on slot 5 on EFS bench - very upright but massive trap pump all the same. I like these
Pull-ups 3x4 wide overhand 3x4 wide neutral 3x4 close neutral 7 wide neutral - all felt really good
Hammer curls
3 sets to 9 RPE with 30 lbs
All up an hour and 40 minutes as I was working in with Tom and Josh and coaching Josh a bit.
Post training selfies, same lighting as yesterday more to show the change from yesterday than anything
Smash down half a litre and see if you’re still hungry. If still hungry smash down another half litre. May result in water intoxication tho so if you really that hungry space dem calories out.
Finnish culture is amazing, especially in the strength training world - it’s like most of us got stuck in the early 2000s. Everyone lifts big, eats big and makes fun of men’s physique
In the last couple of years there have been more people who are more into bikini fitness and men’s physique than powerlifting and bodybuilding, but I guess that’s inevitable. But I do believe that there will always be at least a small circle of meatheads who have that old-school mentality.
I haven’t been dieting since around April. Now it’s more reverse dieting if anything, and even that is stretching the term. I’ve got a decent handle on what I can and can’t get away with, and what I can get away with very happily includes two carb feeds a week of 500-600 grams and a daily carb intake of 315 grams in 2800 cal/day. That’ll increase in a few weeks.
The only reason I’m whining is I had a full on glut two nights ago so I know I don’t NEED to eat more, I just want to.
That feels better. My stomach doesn’t feel like it’s trying to digest me any more. Be interesting to see what I look like tomorrow morning.
So, yeah, bitched out. Feel better for it. Slightly pissed off at myself but better. Got to trust that my body is adjusted to being leaner well enough to be able to make use of the calories I’ve thrown at it to make some muscle instead of fat.
That’s some whiny shit right there. Because I’m an ex-fatty. I really like my physique right now, even though I’m obviously working to improve it, and occasionally I still get pangs of fear that I’ll lose it to poor diet.
I mean, it’s gotten better - it used to happen more often and when I ate a tiny bit too much. Now it rarely happens and only when I really push the boundaries a bit, like this last week. Which is part of the process as I need to figure out what the limits are, because if I want to add muscle the more I can eat without adding fat the better. Kind of hard to find out how much that is without eating more on occasion.
So, yeah, sorry for the whingeing. Probably just venting I suppose.
Ha don’t worry dude, I understand the feels. I’m a former fatty myself and understand the daily struggle of being attached to your hard earned abs but still in love with food!
I’m loving the volume @irishman92 and besides, I’m using the big lifts (more or less). I think the volume and frequency is the one thing that’s letting me be a little more blase with my diet without getting sloppy.
When my diet is cruising, i’m cruising away, no worries.
One big day of eating big every months or so, no worries.
When I do it every other week, proberly no worries.
BUT when doing it every week I end up being hungry AF.
My body craves calories. I eat more feeling great.
Thinking next day i’m still full… BUT that stupid body says, hey all them calories where great… give me more.
So basically, keep an eye on, not so much the weight scale as on that waistline… that will give you the answer.
And as mentioned eat clean and you should be fine.
The next month will be tough, though
