First official training of 2017.
Today’s training:
Lazy lifter
Stiff bar deadlift
5 pull-ups between first three warmup sets - couldn’t use the neutral grip as that rack was in use, so did chin-ups for the first set and overhand grip for the other two. Elbows weren’t big fans, although the actual moving myself to the bar was pretty easy.
5x330 lbs, under 6 RPE - double overhand
5x379 lbs, under 6 RPE - used my left hand as the underhand, did not feel nice
5x434 lbs, 7-8 RPE - felt shitty, groove was off. I’m beginning to suspect that I need to start pulling double overhand on all my sets for a while. Since I hate hookgrip, I’ll use straps (gasp!).
SGDL
3x5x258 lbs, all under 6 RPE
SSB squat, Oly shoes
50 total reps at 280 lbs: 25, 15 (first 10 paused), 10 (paused)
These were fun
Supersetted calf raises/ab wheel
Calves 100 total reps at 143 lbs: 25, 40, 35
Ab wheel with 33 lbs extra: 15, 20, 15
So squats were a lot of fun. DL felt pretty shitty, partly because I’m unused to the stiff bar - but also because I think I’m starting to develop a slight imbalance because I’ve been using my right hand as the underhand since I messed up my left bicep. It just feels harder to get into a good starting position with the mixed grip, so I figure using straps should be a good solution as I work my grip a bunch in other ways (Kroc rows and Fat Gripz shrugs especially).
