Marine Corps OCS - One Year Away

Interesting… I was searching for info on the exact same information about Marine Corps OCS and here’s one that is still fresh.

I’m actually training and getting in shape to hopefully make into USMC OCS for the Sept/Oct class, as it was something I’ve been interested in since last year. Although being a military officer (I tried out Army ROTC years ago, I was too immature, not in the best shape, just not in the right mindset, period, so I quit) is something I’ve been interested for a long time, and after screwing up and growing up a bit it’s a path I’m now preparing for and think I’m ready for since I graduate college soon.

Just curious, but what do you guys think of high-intensity interval training for running conditioning? Running is my weak point now, and I want to of course remedy that as one of my top priorities since I’ve heard and this thread reinforces just how important that is in OCS. I’m a still kind of a piece of shit now (5’9", 228lbs), but I’m real motivated to get things done one way or another.

I would make sure to be at least in Marine Corps standards before you leave. At 5’9" you have to be under 186LBS. As far as running goes I like the HIIT, but you are going to be running 3+ miles a lot so you’d better go for some long runs. Make sure to take care of your knees, shins, and feet or your going to be hurtin pretty bad.

any adise from you ocs grads,on my canidate ! starting week 5 knee sprain doing ok now he did 86 on sule ,but rop pull slowing him some as knee still a bit ginger ,i explainedhes gotta push thru that easy for me lol 40 yearssince ive been in. but he got on platoon prob with 15 others ,and 2 are on company . he messed up 2 tests he said he knows he has to focus harder hees flt acnidate and id guess there very little tolerance there . o course has a couple of areas hes getting extrapractice on . im only family member holding on air tickets . i just want to make sure hes gonna get this but he may go to full end before knowing so any advice im all eyes

I know this is an oooold thread, but I wanted to post a report of my progress now 6 months later. I signed my ground contract this week and am waiting to get selected for OCC 199. I’m currently 190 lbs (shedding more fat weight still to make running easier), looking like less of a piece of shit, and my running is improving week by week. Long journey, and I’m training my balls off to prepare myself the best I can before going to OCS.
