T&F Weight: Need to get tighter footwork.
LWFD:
HWFD: New PR 32’4" even as unbalanced as I was at release.
WOB (Weight over branch) a 12’ branch. The weight was light, 37lbs instead of the 42 its supposed to be. I think I need to be keeping my weight more over my right foot, but I’m not too clear on the technique in this event yet.
Wow. Such cool stuff to watch. Is there a line you can’t cross during competition when you release?
Not in WOB, sheaf, or caber, but yes for all the others. In the WFD videos you can just make out some blue (purple? color blindness strikes again) twine marking the front of the throwing area.
That looks like loads of fun. Thanks for sharing those videos.
training is looking good carl, and so is the weight throw. At this point, I can’t imagine throwing the 42 for over 30 ft. Your WOB spin looks great by the way.
Question: where did you get the triangle handle for your weights? I need a handle. I’ve been using a pipe with chain running through it to the weight.
Thanks Jack, John. The handle came from my old 35lb T&F weight. It’s only about 1/2" diameter which makes the grip feel a little odd. On the WOB spin, I’m trying to slowly work up to the point where I can spin with a 42lb weight. That was to date the most I’ve been able to decently handle. Not sure if you can get the handles separately or if you would want one anyway, but I think it came from VS-Athletics
Training 12/3/2010
Snatch: 50x3, 60x2, 70x1, (77.5x1)5, (82.5x1)5, (85x1)5, (87.5x1)2, (90xx1)2, 92.5x1, 95x0,0,1
Was supposed to stop after the 2nd miss, but the last one was too close to let it go. Glad I went one more.
5/3/1 C7 W1 Military:
50x5
53x5
56x7
68x0 bad dog, no biscuit.
Dips:(BW+5)x8,8,8
Lat Pull Downs: 170lbsx8,8,8
All in all, slightly less weak than last week.
4 of the last 5 snatches today, omitted the first miss at 95.
I cant do a snatch to save my own ass.
Well then, here’s hoping you are never in the situation where you have to do a snatch to save it. (Silly smiley thing goes here.)
Great work Carl. I am insanely jealous.
Thanks John.
Throwing 12/4/2010
6kg Shot: 5 stands, 5 half spins, 25 full throws, best around 47’ or 48’?, the marks got obliterated by subsequent WFD throws. Was staying back a little better, could tell by how high my chest was getting, but not enough to stay in the ring.
25lb weight: 10 three turn throws, best around 57’-58’. Was able to keep low as the weight goes past 90 (to my left) to 180 (the direction of the throw). Got better balance as a result. If I can keep that and work out the timing on the step over better, these will start looking pretty good.
LWFD: 10 two turn throws, best of 51’10", three past 50’. More a relief than anything. This convinced me the 52’2" at the last games was not a fluke.
HWFD: 5 two turn throws, three past 30’ best of 31’11". Just keep doing them and both WFD are going to improve considerably. Timing is not quite there yet.
WOB (40lb weight): 1 side sling and the eye bolt holding the weight together broke. Didn’t even clear the 12ft branch either.
Sprints: Six 30m, best of 4.59s, one 40y at 5.65s getting slightly less slow on these.
Training 12/6/2010
C&J: 60x2, 70x2, 80x1, 90x1, (96x1)5, (99x1)2, (102x1)2, (105x1)2, (108x1)2, 111x1, 112x1
5/3/1 C7 W2 Bench
71x3
76x3
80x4 Very easy, 5 definitely would have gone up, but I’m purposely staying away from slow reps and it would have been slow.
89x1, 72x5,5,5 The 89 flew up, hard to believe I couldn’t do it last week.
Pendlay Rows 60x10,10,10 First time doing these, I like them.
Yesterday’s C&J. The first attempt at 108, the 111 (with a real funky recovery and jerk) and the 112 (marginal on the jerk, but would have passed at almost any masters comp)
Training 12/7/2010
Power Snatch: 50x5, 60x5, 64x5, (68x5)2
High Hang Snatch: (68x3)2
5/3/1 C7 W2 Squats:
94x3
100x3
106x7
117x1, 127x1
Front Squats: (95x5)3
Back Raises: BW+22.5kgx8,8,8
Cool videos in this thread!!!
If I’m not mistaken, the modicum of “knowledge” I’ve gleaned about the OLs from lotsa surfing tells me that the amount of weight you’re tossing around relative to the amount of weight you can back squat/front squat is quite high, which means your skill level is excellent. Impressive stuff.
love watching the snatches i need to learn those things…just finishing up my first 5/3/1 cycle. keep up the hard work.
Truly outstanding lifting and throwing. Just occured to me that I’ve never been to a Oly meet. With 3 tries at each weight seems like a meet could get long fast.
