Marathon Runner Looking Dude Dabbling in Oly Lifts

starting next week I will also make sure i get 50 winds per day. Are you doing any releases, or just the winds?

Just winds. Three reasons, first, I made a claim that lots and lots of winds are the most important part to train, at least for beginners, second, I can only get down to town to throw once a week, and third, it saves hammer handles. I might put in some releases toward the end of the month.

Training 10/6/2010

Power Cleans: 60x3, (65x3)2

5/3/1 C4 W2 Military Presses
49x3
52x3
55x6

64x1

Dips: BWx6,6,7
Lat Pull Downs: (150x9)3

Hammer Winds:
22 lb hammer: 5, 5, 5, 6, 6
16lb hammer: 7, 7, 7, 7, 7

Did 52 total winds last night, so as of now I’m up to 164 for the month.

Great recap on the meet Carl, very cool and congratulations. I miss those snatch videos of yours, very very strong!

Thanks DZ. There will still be snatch videos from time to time, and now that I’m finally coming to terms with the summer being over, I hope to get videos of the other stuff I’m doing. Tomorrow I plan on some caber toss videos.

Training 10/7/2010

Snatch: 50x2, 60x2, 70x2, (75x1)5, (80x1)5, (82.5x1)5, (85x1)2, 87.5x0,1, 90x0

5/3/1 C4 W2 Deadlifts (Snatch grip)
94x3
100x3
106x7

120x1

(94x5)3
Leg Lifts: 9, 9, 10

Hammers Winds:
22lbx5,5,4,6,5
16lbx6,6,6,6,7
Total for Oct: 220

The 90kg snatch was close, got it locked out overhead but it was 1cm too far out front so I couldn’t hold it.
Got to pull the weight even more back. My sides are beginning to ache from all the hammer winds. I guess thats a good sign.

if it hurts, it must be working

Hammer winds:

10/8/2010
22lb hammer x 5,5,5,4 I tried to take the orbit too far behind me on the last one, lost my balance and had to let go of the hammer. It hit the porch and the handle shattered. Lost 8 inches off the end. Finished up the prescribed winds with the shortened handle, but they just weren’t the same. I’m not going to count them.

10/9/2010 Fixed up a new handle and did:
22lb hammer x 5,5,5,7,7
16lb hammer x 5,7,7,7,7,7

Total is now up to 308.

Also threw some caber. Turned my new 17’ 65lb caber 2 out of 7 tosses, then it broke. I need to get better picking which trees I bring home.

Some HG throwing later today, stones, wfd, and wob.

just be glad the hammer didn’t go thru the wall of the house! and how do you manage to bring home a 17’ tree anyway?

Like this

Yep, that’s pretty much it. Although it looks like he’s got someone on the other end helping.

On the lucky it didn’t hit the house thing: The way I stand, whenever its headed towards the house, its also headed down, so its not going to happen.

Throwing today:

Shot (6kg): 5 stands, 5 half spins, 20 full spins, best about 14.50m
Braemer stone: (20.5lb) 10 throws, a couple just over 30ft.
Open stone: (15lb) 10 throws (spin) Almost got 40’ on a couple of them. One possible 42’ throw, but I wasn’t completely certain where it hit.
LWFD: 10 throws, best of about 42’. Its been a while and I forgot which links give the right length. Turns out I was throwing with a 20" length. No wonder it felt funny.
WOB (which means weight over branch for me). Working on spin, throwing over a ~15ft high branch, but only using a 30lb weight. After a month off, the grip seems to be the weak point. Got the first 7 well over, then got tired and missed the last 3.
Hammer winds: 22lb hammer x 5,5,5,5,5
16lb hammer x 7,7,7,7,7. Might have done six sets, I lost count at what I thought was 4 but could have been only 3. Up to 368 total for the month.

Thats some good looking training. I’d like to have seen the neighbors when you borught the tree home.

Thanks JoeGood. I carried the tree from the woods to my truck, then had to drive it across our neighborhood to my house. I noticed a few people had to stop what they were doing and stare open mouthed as I drove by,

Excuse me for my ignorance, but could you explain some of your lifts and exactly what kind of training you are doing, please.

Good work in here, Carl, you are tearing it up.

First of the two good caber tosses from Friday.

OK

good toss!

excellent! and including the kilt for authenticity

Man in kilt! Man in kilt!

Very cool. Quite honestly, I don’t know these highland games lifts either, so the vids were helpful.
