@kckfl349 - Yes, I too have a love/hate relationship with them!

@isdatnutty - Haha, thanks man. I was happy that my top set at 395 x 5 felt so light. Usually 405lbs is the weight where I can tell if I’m having a bad day or a good day.

@duketheslaya - Oh, I’ll be ringing the lunk alarm DAILY! Slamming those pink dbs and weight stacks like it’s my job.

@Irishman92 - Nice catch! I was wondering if anyone would catch that. gg

Edit:

Morning Weight: 214.2lbs (-0.4lbs)

This was a little surprising as I felt bloated upon waking, thinking that this was due to the half a bag of Mini Eggs I consumed with some red wine…right before bed.

Seated OHP without a back rest is pretty brutal…or you could get stupid strong at a Z-Press haha

Actually the more I think about Z-presses the more I think it will benefit my OHP (sure it will be quite humbling at first). My high %RM OHPs have a decent lean back form, which is impossible with the Z-press without falling backwards. In theory, this should be really targeting my weaknesses in the lift.

Blah, blah, blah, I’m not overly concerned. Work will be put in, and I will get stronger in all my lifts. Period.

If you fall backward during Z-presses be sure to do reps during your fall - you’ll get some upper chest work in there. Them you can just continue with floor presses as you are on the ground.

And there you have it, complete development in the chest/shoulder/tricep area

So I went digging back through my goals to see how I’ve been making out, since I wasn’t overly enthused with my progress of 2017:

May 2016 1RMs:

Sept 2016 1RMs and future goals:

Progress during 2016, and goals set for 2017 (Posted in January 2017)

Then in January of last year I hit most of those goals!

Then no PRs until I hit my 655 DL this past December for a 50lb PR.

What I’m going to choose to focus on is the fact that since May of 2016 (~19months of having this log open) I’ve managed to add 270lbs to my 4 lift total (or 230lbs to my PL total).

When looking at it this way, I’m pleased with my progress. It’s all about how you manipulate the data!

Thats a lot of pounds in a short time man! Congrats

You’re also still moving in a pretty linear direction! You haven’t peaked and then fallen off the table or anything like that (like me).

@kckfl349 - Thanks man!

@Frank_C - Haha, not yet and hopefully not anytime soon.

I’ve just signed up for the Canadian Powerlifting League (paid my dues and am an official member). I’m excited about doing my first ever competitive lifting event. I have a feeling that this will add an additional edge to my training (both being signed up for it with a goal date, as well as after competing and getting a taste of it).

5/3/1 SVR Template - Week 1 is widowmakers! Ugh.

I think Pervertor is going to be my next template. Anchor cycle has PR sets followed by widowmakers in week 1. It’s going to be hell and awesome.

Sounds like some good shit!!

I need to buy the new book sometime.

It has some great new templates that do ā€˜freshen up’ 5/3/1. Its formatting/editing bothers me more than it should, but Forever 5/3/1 still a good buy for sure.

You plan to be in which weight class?

Having a goal date is always a strong kick in the butt for the training!

I have decided to just see where my weight falls when I’m signing up for my first powerlifting meet. Right now I’m sitting at 215lbs, so I will likely be coming into the 100kg class.

Possibly down the road if I feel I can be competitive I may try and squeeze into the 198lb class (shouldn’t be too difficult) but right now I’m just going to try and continue to get stronger without getting fatter!

Do you compete? If so, what class? Have you competed with the new(er) Elite Powerlifting Canada (EPC)?
