315 x 20…gah…
Ya, I kind of want to try this again…in a sick way.
Mini Story Time:
On Saturday a good friend of mine (who works out at my place 3x/week - doing 5/3/1) brought his brother over for a workout. His brother is the backup quarterback for his University and is home for the holidays. Lets be clear, this is Canadian Football…so not quite the calibre of football y’all are used to. Anyways, my friend comes out mid-workout and asks me to come show his brother that I can do the standing ab wheel as he doesn’t believe me (since he is quite athletic and cannot do it).
So I put the paint roller down (currently painting our basement) and go in and do one. Then two, then on the third my left shoulder gave out/borderline dislocates and I fell on my face. I then did another just to regain my dignity.
The fact that I collapsed on my face wasn’t the part I’m ashamed about, it’s the fact that my shoulders are extremely sore (not in a good way) from three stupid standing ab wheels that I did to prove a point.
I know for a fact this will not be the last time my competitiveness will get me injured lifting weights.
I did this a few weeks ago at my brother in laws friends house. His friends didn’t believe I could squat 315. So I squatted 315x6 in their garage in slacks, dress shoes, and absolutely no warm up. It was probably one of the stupidest things I’ve ever done. My lower back was sore as fuck for 3 days lol.
Worth it
Yes the looks on their face was priceless lol. I think it’s they are the typical “gym bro upper body only” type of guys and obviously when it comes up upper body they are much much bigger than me. But luckily that’s not my concern lol.
Yeah, a big squat is always more impressive than a big bench imo
I did this a few weeks ago
Haha ya, it was a “fuck I’m stupid” moment. But as @lord_humongous pointed out, worth it!

I think my wife is bringing out the buzzer tonight and shearing me. Heading out of town after work this Friday and then just getting home in time to start driving down to Florida!
So I’ll have to remember to get some ‘before’ photos for the T-ransformation Challenge this week sometime, otherwise I’m afraid I won’t have a chance with all the Holiday shenanigans before the new year.
I think my wife is bringing out the buzzer tonight
In my house, “the wife bringing out the buzzer…” means something entirely different than manscaping ![]()
I should be receiving/opening some new squat shoes any day now, went with the Romaleos III (wife said the Adi-powers looked too much like “old man” shoes haha) so hopefully a review will be incoming soon! (I assume these will drive my squat up like…1,000 lbs, right? That’s how that works?!)
Haha awesome man! I went to local sport store who is the only dealer of Nike shoes near me and they didn’t have ANY dedicated squat shoes. They had a few Metcon training sneakers, but nothing for me to try on to even check sizing…
When I’m visiting the in-laws I might have to sneak out and check out some places where they live (a little less rural than where I am).
Interested to hear how they feel for you!
But yes, I’m assuming you’ll be a 1000lb squatter now for sure. I mean, maybe there will be a small adjustment window, but after that…WR no doubt.
so hopefully a review will be incoming soon!
In for this review. I’ve been holding off getting any squat shoes but I’ll prob end up with some Nike’s after the new year myself.
Here’s a review:

Good quick workout. Motivation and time is currently lacking, so as long as I can consistently hit some heavy(ish) shit I’ll be happy.
@kd13 - Here is some fairly typical form for what I would refer to as a Yates row. This was set 1, so body english only got worse from here on…
Barely any English there brother. Looks solid to me. I’ve even seen a lot of people standing even more upright. More like 15-20 degrees versus your 45. Good stuff though man! Strong rows.
Thanks for that buddy, appreciate you taking the time to film them.
Looking at it I would say the biggest difference (other than the fact your using much more weight for more reps! ) is the body angle. I’m more upright, and like you mentioned before you aim just above belly button where as I’m pulling to lower than belly button which I think explains why I feel my rom feels short.
I have rows tonight so will try and replicate your form and see if I get a better lat contraction.
Great rowing strength and thanks again.
underhand grip
These kill my elbows and wrists, simply can’t do them.

Thanks man. After watching the video, I look much lower (torso angle) than I feel when doing them. I was thinking I may have been too upright while I was doing them. It may be worth trying out an even slightly higher angle.
When I increased the weight and as the sets went on, I assume I was slightly more upright, and with more body english.
Thanks for that buddy, appreciate you taking the time to film them.
You’re very welcome! Again, I’m not positive I’m doing them as they were intended, but these work for me (I can feel some slight DOMS in my lats this morning).

Ya they feel all kinds of awkward. Although, even barbell curls aren’t nice for me, so maybe it is a matter of working on mobility…hmmm
working on mobility
gasps!
