Maple Syrup Strength (littlesleeper)

Thanks for stopping in man!

These were a childhood favourite. So even us Canadians can get our hands on them! Santa would leave a sleeve of these in my stocking every year; he somehow knew I hated those damn chocolate oranges that showed up the previous year.

How does everyone feel about these nasty little things?

Dude Arnotts mint slice biscuits are the tits! I don’t eat em any more because I once ate two family packs in one sitting and spent the next hour pissing out of my ass and trying not to die, but it was very nearly worth it.
I am pro choc mint.
It’s not as good as chocolate Peanut butter though

That sounds awesome.

You don’t like mint chocolate and you like the sound of orange chocolate? Get out of my thread lol

Well just did a little hotel shoulder workout.

Seated shoulder press (handles behind head)
10x10 @75lbs - 7th set on were getting grindy

Standing cable lat raise
10x10 @15lbs - shoulders looking swole meow

Now off to drink beer and eat pub food. Don’t judge me.

5/3/1 3’s Week

Front Squat
135 x 5
185 x 5
235 x 3
275 x 3
305 x 6
225 x 10

Lying Banded Hamstring Curls - Red Mini Band
10 x 5sets

Everything so far was done pretty half-heartedly. Feeling a little rough from too many beers and not enough sleep last night.

This is when I decided to go outside and just do some sprints around the yard with the dog. When I went outside I saw that damn 250lb atlas stone still sitting in front of my house where it was dropped off a year ago…
I haven’t been able to budge the damn thing so I decided today would be the day! I tried, and tried, and tried and couldn’t lift it! The last thing I wanted to do was have to put it on a dolly to take it around back of my house, but it sure as hell wasn’t sitting there for another winter.
I watched the video of myself failing 100x and then decided I was ACTUALLY going to do it.

Spoiler alert, I did it. Also, did it one more time once I drove it to the backyard just for good measure. Now the confidence is there to play with the heavy stone for a couple months before the snow hits!

Wow, my shoulders are definitely feeling that 200rep shoulder blast from the hotel workout (thankfully I didn’t have time to finish the full ā€œ500rep Shoulder Workoutā€). I think shoulders are going to be seeing a little more attention going forward for awhile. No plans to stray from 5/3/1 yet but my assistance will include a lot more shoulder specific work. They are a definite weakness of mine (physique-wise), I’ll just have to closely monitor their health and be sure not to anger them too much.

That atlas stone is only beginning to feel the hurt you are gonna put on it! Nice going there.

Gotta be careful on that hotel-equipment… Something about lifting away from home; that’s where I’ve always gotten injured. Hotel gyms and cruise ships are dangerous!

I’ve also started doing more assistance work on shoulders … Definitely a weak point in my physique (besides my arms, chest, legs, and traps, haha!). I really hate raises; translation: do more!

Haha thanks man.

Oh, I’m totally with you there!

Still feeling shoulder DOMS today and proud of my little atlas stone hickeys.

Just a little update, mostly diet related:

So I was planning on doing a month or two of going vegetarian, but I think that journey has come to an end (after only 2 weeks @ about 70% adherence).

A few observations I’d like to make on my brief experience:

  1. I had plenty of energy and performance was not reduced in the gym as I hit a couple PRs during this period (as expected since carbs were at an all time high).
  2. Meal prep time was doubled, at least. Sure I could have just eaten a much more basic plan, but that would have further reduced my adherence to this diet. Washing, cutting, peeling, mashing, cooking, was much more intensive than the typical meat/veggie/starch diet that is typically cooked between sets of my workout. The vegetarian meals that I experimented with required constant work through the duration of the prep. Not just a "prepare for 10mins and toss in the oven for 45mins).
  3. So many ingredients being tossed into each recipe made tracking macros/calories much more time consuming, a resource I’m currently in short supply of.
  4. All home cooked meals were meat free, but we did eat out, go to a wedding, have birthday parties, etc where I did eat meat.
  5. This happened to be a very ā€œwetā€ two weeks given the different social events we had on the calendar. I’m talking about the large amount of beer consumed during this two weeks.
  6. I’m currently looking much softer and a little bloated compared to when I started the diet. (again, this could be attributed to the alcohol or desserts that I was a little looser on turning down).
  7. Recovery was significantly reduced. I typically do not experience much DOMS, but the last two weeks is the most I’ve felt since high school. Every workout left me sore for a few days. I’m going to increase protein and reduce carbs once again and see how this changes. (I’m away again this week for work, so the consistent eating will resume next week)

OVERALL:
Our plan is still to incorporate some plant-based meals into our regular routine, but going back to free-range local eggs for breakfast, and some local chicken/beef for dinner.

I’ve been making a quinoa salad a lot which is a shared favourite with my wife and I. We have been doubling the recipe and taking this for lunches/snacks.

QUINOA SALAD RECIPE:
1 cup quinoa (2cups water to 1 cup quinoa)
2 cups of green beans (blanched)
1 red pepper
1 can chickpeas

Dressing:
1/3 cup passata
3tbs olive oil
3tbs honey
3tbs red wine vinegar
1/2tsp sale
1tsp italian seasoning

I have increased my meat intake for the same reasons lately. Also thanks for the write up, now I dont have to try it

Haha, well you might have a different experience!

I’ve always been pretty good at eating my fruits and veggies so I plan on keeping that up, but the vegetarian life just isn’t for me.

I’ve gone full-veg a handful of times, even raw-vegan. It is a full-time job.

 Lmao

I think this is your and everyone else’s best bet. People usually feel better when they go vegetarian because they’ve never eaten vegetables and fruits regularly in their diets. Either that, or they crash because they cut out meat and eat more processed shit to fill the gap and fee worse. A good balance is all ya need.

Btw I’m jealous. First stone I touched was 260( actually it may have been 240, not sure) and I almost blacked out attempting to load it. A lovely zero-ing to be sure :no_mouth:
