That top set took a piece out of me. I was feeling good coming into this workout. After that set, I was ready to call it a day. I did not feel like doing those BBB and ab wheel sets, but we got the work in.

I played hockey with my work colleagues (first time playing hockey in ~5yrs). My lungs were on FIRE. I historically used a puffer for hockey, the cold seemed to bother my lungs during exercise (fortunately I don’t have to work out in my cold garage like many of you! - although, I probably would not have this problem if I did.). It was a lot of fun, and I’ve been added to their “spares list” for when one of their regular players can’t make it.

I went to the trampoline with my kids, and I was THAT DAD. Lol. The one in the trampoline dodgeball area who was taking on the 20 children in a game of dodgeball. I very badly lost, but it was a fantastic workout and fun was had by all.

Back is a little angry from that top set fail. I had 255lbs in my head coming into the workout, but made the mistake of trying 265lbs. Core didn’t want to stay tight for me, just couldn’t muster up the proper leg drive to make that weight pop. Glad to get a workout in after a week off (unintentionally), but it wasn’t anything spectacular.

I’ll have a workout tomorrow, as I have a queen size murphy bed being delivered, and I’ll have to muscle that downstairs to our spare bedroom that we have finally finished! I’ve been doing lots of painting and baseboard installations over the last few weeks. Just need to finish the hall and hall closet now.

Oops! Not the best week behind me, but no use dwelling on the past. Time to get after it again!

BBB wrapped up last week, so I’m going to do a cycle of 5/3/1 Bodyweight. I clearly need it as my chins and dips aren’t where I’d like them to be! Great pump after the superset.

In other news, my mother-in-law gave me some sourdough starter, so looks like my diet will be switching to meat and bread, Lol. Made some pizza dough with the discard tonight, and it was a family favourite. My son after his first bite: “Dad, this was the bestest pizza you ever made us. If you meet that strongest man again, you should tell him you make the best pizza.” I have two containers bulk fermenting on the counter right now, one will be a sandwich bread loaf and the other an artisan loaf. Don’t worry if you have no idea what I’m talking about, I didn’t until last weekend when we were at my in-laws.

Friends! I’ve been slacking on logging (and kinda-sorta in the weight room). Getting over a few life bumps (sickness and work chaos - nothing to be concerned about, just a little more stressors over these past few weeks).

FAMILY DAY WEEKEND
I played in a little local 3 on 3 pond hockey tournament in “the village” on “the creek”. Our team did well for mostly old-timers! My Dad and a couple of his friends played on the team as well, it was a great day with friends and family.

The stomach bug has been going through our house for the last few days. I’ve managed to avoid it, but it has been 4 nights of bathing our kids and changing their sheets in the night :face_vomiting:, so I feel like I’m running off of fumes! Managed to get a workout in today, but my strength and energy were low.

Hope all is well in TNation land!

Very nice squatting mate, such good control with that weight. I love the sound of those metal plates, reminded me of Ed Corney Squatting with Arnie in pumping iron. Quality

Yikes! I didn’t realize I had been away for so long.

I hope all is well in TNation-Land!

My workouts have been sporadic this spring. I decided to take on a lot of projects around the house which has been digging into any “free time” when I was previously able to slip in a workout.

I just started Dan John’s “Easy Strength” last week, and plan to run it for a while until I decide I can devote some more time to lifting. I have run Easy Strength before, and I like the simplicity. Under 45-minute workouts, same lifts each day, set up remains easy from the previous day’s work, and I can always add a little supplementary work if time permits.

In more interesting news, today is day 2 of the carnivore diet and I intend to run it for just shy of 1 month (26 days). Why 26 days? I have a work event which will be a fun, social event that I plan to participate in with colleagues fully.

The Carnivore Diet Adventure June 21, 2024
Starting Weight: 213.6lbs

I had been contemplating this diet for a few months, and have been doing my own reading/listening about it before diving in. This spring has been all over the place from a fitness perspective (minimal working out, lots of quick meals and alcoholic beverages). In fear of trending towards “skinny-fat” I knew I needed to change things back around and for me, committing to a diet is a must (rather than simply telling myself I will eat healthier).

We have our own chickens who range across our acreage, so eggs will be a big part of my diet. I’ve also ordered a pasture raised “quarter of beef” from a local farmer but will not be getting it until late July, so for now, Costco will likely supply the majority of my beef.

Goals:

  • Remove some dietary reliance (coffee, alcohol) - both will be 100% cut during the next 26 days.
  • Weight loss - hope to get down close to 200lbs (eventually, plan will be to extend the diet after my “cheat day” on July 17th.
  • Plan to increase frequency of workouts again 3-4 days per week, to build muscle and work capacity.

Day 1: This made up everything that I consumed yesterday. Slight headache/brain fog in the evening, but I’ll assume that was from having no coffee (as I typically drink 6-8 cups per day).

Dude, I am SO excited for you. Easy Strength AND carnivore: hell yeah! I am going to try my best not to be overbearing and gush over this whole log, haha. But please reach out if there’s any perspective I can lend.

For the brain fog, are you employing any manner of supplemental electrolytes? If not, those went a LONG way for me. As I’m sure you saw in your own research, no longer having carbs in your system means you’re not holding as much water and electrolytes/glycogen as before, so now we need to up our salts.

That so awesome you have your own chickens, eggs, and a pasture raised quarter cow there. Those are outstanding sources of nutrition.

I’m in the same range, maybe even one or two more on rough days, but I’ve made a conscious effort to keep it to 4-5 lately. Watching you do this might be enough to inspire me to go for even less throughout the day…

Glad to have you following along, truly inspired by your journey on The Carnivore Diet.

Now that you mention it, I forgot my usual electrolyte serving yesterday morning as my routine was a little thrown off (I always have an electrolyte drink before my first coffee of the day - try to delay caffeine consumption a minimum of 60mins after waking).

Instead I have started the day with 1 cup of warm bone broth. I’ve definitely been heavily salting my steaks, and they have been delicious. Some bacon on a side for lunch today as well. All good so far!

Honestly, I welcome any feedback or comments on my approach to Carnivore. I’d like this to be a success!

I’d say that’s a reasonable amount. I assume I’ll return to coffee, just like to remove/reduce my dependence on it!
