Bow Bar Bench Press - working up to a heavy triple, short pause on each rep.
45 x 10
135 x 5
185 x 3
225 x 3
245 x 3
275 x 3
Loooong (30minute) rest. Buddy of mine called mid-workout (frantically ran to the phone to answer in case it was my wife) to tell me about his Lumberjack Competition that he was at last weekend (I watched it on TV). I laid on the bench and chatted for ~30mins.
Mini warmup (pushups, banded pushdowns, facepulls), then hit my top set, lol…not ideal.
300lbs x 3 ← Moved alright, adds a 2-3" deficit at the bottom.

At this point, motivation was lost for my workout so I did 3 quick rounds of:

8 chinups
10 hanging leg raises
15 pushups

Good enough for a sweat and a little pump after hitting a decent 3RM. I’ll take it.

Happy 4th of July to all my friends from 'murica.

We had a great Canada Day long weekend last weekend, so hope y’all enjoy your day!

Wow, first time I’ve seen those so called seated deadlifts. Would you still be doing them as a variation if you weren’t injured?

Baby time, exciting!!!

It’s going to be awesome.

Hoping for quick recovery for mom and a healthy sleepy baby!

Nope! Strictly a variation used to tax the system and move some heavy weight while not explicitly rebelling against doctors orders.
I see no reason to do these rather than a typical deadlift (or almost any other variation) beyond working around injuries.

Thanks! Us too!

Papa Sleeper checking in!
July 5th our son was born at 8lbs 12oz, both Mom and infant are healthy.

Things have been going well and I’m excited for this next chapter. I’m obviously working on reduced sleep and helping out my wife as much as humanly possible.

I did manage to slip in my first workout as a Dad this morning, and feel great, so I’m hoping I can start getting them in semi-frequently.

I’ll log the workout later this evening, it is feeding time (for him), and I’m the assistant for this task.

Congratulations to you and your wife. Enjoy this special time as a family.

WAHOOOO!!! Congrats. How long before father son workouts?

Hell yeah Sleepy
Massive congratulations to the three of you.

Congratulations man!

@mattjp - Thanks man! Haha, the Dad Strength was surprisingly powerful given that I’ve been out of the weight room so much recently!

@mr.v3lv3t @losthog @MarkKO @simo74 @whang @mortdk - Thanks so much for the well wishes guys.

@BOTSLAYER - Thanks man, given the size of his quads I’d say I’m going to have a run for my money when he gets a little older, time to start pushing my PBs!

Looked through my files for a different 3 day per week program to run.
Tactical Barbell piqued my interest awhile back to I started looking at it again. I think I’m going to run ā€œOperatorā€ for a bit.
It is a full body program doing the same main lifts 3 days a week with some good old linear progression. Main lifts are done circuit style which will hopefully help to keep workouts short and help keep my cardio up. Also, if I happen to miss a workout I’m not neglecting any particular muscle group.

SQUATS (14" box squats)
45 x 5
135 x 5
185 x 5
225 x 3
275 x 3
315 x 5
315 x 5
315 x 5

Holy crap. This is the heaviest that 315 has felt on my back in YEARS. I suppose spending the last 9 weeks in a cast (and not squatting) and running on limited sleep with sub par nutrition really takes a toll on your gym performance! I’m not too worried, a few weeks back under the bar should catch me up pretty quick. Supposed to get 5 top sets in, but stuck to 3 with the level of difficulty I hit and my knees and hips weren’t feeling amazing. Walking lob-sided in this boot for so long I think has caused a slight imbalance that I’ll need to correct once I’m out of it (took it off for the squatting).

BENCH PRESS
45 x 5
135 x 5
185 x 5
225 x 3
245 x 5
245 x 5
245 x 5
245 x 5
245 x 5

These were all pretty easy. I had a few reps in the tank on each set, but nice to get some volume in.

PULL UPS

5 + 25lbs
5 + 25lbs
5 + 25lbs
5 + 25lbs
5 + 25lbs

I was actually most surprised by my strength here! 5 sets of +25lbs were smooth. Full reps. Dead hanging with 25lbs felt like I’d never complete a rep, but they were easier than I anticipated.
