I suppose I jumped the gun with saying that I registered for a PL competition. I should have waiting until I received confirmation…DOH! I did click the “Register” button…
That’s a shame. The problem is that it can be hard to find a hotel room in Toronto sometimes so if they don’t give you much notice you might have nowhere to stay, and if you book something now you run the risk of just wasting your money.
My in-laws live in Hamilton, so I’d likely just make the commute into TO for weigh-in and then the competition the following day. ~45min drive, so isn’t too bad.
If this winds up being the case, at least you can get it done in about 1/4 the time haha.
So true! Also, no need to travel for it which would be an added bonus.
But I want to see my 700lb lift recorded on openpowerlifting dot com!
Yeah I hear ya man, having it on record would be something else! Hopefully it comes together.
What a couple of posts Sleepy, I just thought hell yeah and then oh noo, Hope you’ll get a spot.
Is there a list of competitors, maybe we can persuade some to drop out !!! ![]()
Me too, but it isn’t looking promising at this point!
Just trying to keep the log interesting by adding some emotional twists in here.
I’m picking up what you’re putting down. I like the way you think!

This giant set seemed to really kick my ass for some reason. Only slept around 6hrs the night before (which isn’t terrible for me), so I’m not really sure what my excuse is here. I just didn’t have the “get-up-and-go” for this workout. My conditioning could really use some work.
Underrated core exercise ![]()
What does it feel like to bench with bands & chains? I’ve never used either, and prob never will. I have a good idea of one, or the other, but both!?!?! Haha
I’m not sure how to explain it other than it got heavy, fast! Triceps were torched, a lot of top end overload. Chains add a bit more instability than the bands I find.
I’m not sure of all the exact reasons other than providing a slightly different stimulus to work against!
Thanks, that’s pretty much what I envisioned. I can see this really being useful for yourself. More bar weight is not always the answer, that’s for sure.
I agree. I’m enjoying this Conjugate style training, you tend to do so much more than just changing bar weight.
I haven’t gone as far as doing a competition and quantifying that my lifts have gone up, but I feel stronger and I’ve gotten significantly better on other lifts (non big 3).
If nothing else, a stint of Conjugate training is great for rounding out weaknesses.

505 x 1 - 2 board, nailed the bar path, rep flew up pretty well, best rep this workout.
Holy crap is this shirt ever hard to get out of after the forearms get pumped. I was pulling three lads around the gym while they tugged on a single arm to get it off me.

Good workout, took nearly 2 hours. Wasn’t a quick workout, Saturday mornings are a little more fun and a little less business.
505 over my face?

Strong man. I wouldn’t have the patience a shirt requires.
DUDE!! There will be a huge BBing comp there too. I am puling hard for Antoine Vaillant. I watch a ton of his prep stuff to keep me motivated.
Surely there’s something you can do when you put it on to help with this. Maybe some baby powder type stuff would help?
I’ve busted out a couple sets of 50 reps with band press downs when I train at home. I thought I was doing enough work but apparently I need to step it up!
I always enjoy my training sessions that aren’t on a time limit. It’s great for mental health.
Lol, it is pretty intimidating when the spotters let go and it is just you vs 500lbs. There is a little voice in your head telling you not to start lowering it, because you won’t survive to tell the tale.
Which part of the shirted work do you think you wouldn’t have the patience for?
Yeah, it would have been a fun weekend event to be a part of! Unfortunately, the PL competition is full. I mean, I could always just head to the big city to just be a visitor…
They do have bench shirt sleeves, that are basically like a dryfit sleeve that helps to slide them off. I think the baby powder would be a paste by the end of my workout if I put it on before.
The sleeves are so tight around my elbow that it just fills my forearms up, making it very tough to get off lol. Maybe with some more use it will loosen up a touch.
Yeah, with the bench shirt you can really beat up your elbows, so he has me do lots of volume with pushdowns and some forearm work to try to keep them healthy.
Same, they are a nice break from the typical grind. Work is still getting done, just a little more casual.
-getting it on
-learning how to use it
-trying hard to touch in the correct path on every rep
-having spotters avail bc you’re 120%+ above 1RM
-getting it off
-not getting folded up like a lawn chair ![]()
But I enjoy seeing others do it. Can you get a vid of one of these 500+?
