Maple Syrup Strength (littlesleeper)

The truest test of adulthood there is…

It’s very hard to pass that test

Perhaps a blessing in disguise. You are used to lifting by yourself or with a mate. At a gym there will be other randoms around, judging and criticising your every. Single. Move.

Good prep for a meet methinks

Hopefully that is the case! The weigh ins are at a local powerlifting gym, so I might just sign up there for a couple weeks.

BENCH
135 x 5
185 x 5
225 x 3
245 x 8 x 5sets

Bunch of band work between sets.

LOG VIPER PRESS
155 x 3 EMOM 8 mins

These seemed much easier, cardiovascularly, than last time (April2).

5 mins AirDyne: 52 cals

Also, trying one of these for a bit to see if I can improve my sleep. Doc is signing me up for a sleep study, but this is Canadian healthcare so it will be several months before I’m even looked at. Decided to buy one used to give it a try. Unfortunately, after I got it home and put it on I can tell it was used by smokers and/or in a home that they smoked in. Sucking on an ash tray until I can replace the tubes. I have a new mouth piece and filter but the tubes and bag even stink.

You bought a used CPAP? Please tell me you bleached the hell out of it.

So how did the first sleep go?

Haha I did buy a used CPAP, and no I did not…I probably should though lol
If my wife was home last night she would have, but I’m not particularly bothered by germs and what not. It was a new nose piece, but the tubes and headgear are used…and smell like smoke…

Tonight I’ll clean 'er up!

I just practiced with it for <1hr before bed. It kind of made me out of breath a few times because of the back pressure. Also because I was so damn focused on my breathing, I may have momentarily forgot how I normally breathe…ya, I IS smart.

The same gym that will also be running the competition? Or possibly have the equipment to be used in the competition? Or same makes and kilo/calibrated plates?

If any of that is the case peaking there would be an amazing advantage.

Its called Immune System Training.

Not the same gym that will be running the comp. The host is a gym on wheels that comes in a big truck and trailer and just sets up at a venue.

Good question about the calibrated kg plates and bars. That might be something worth looking into so I can really dial in my attempts.

Congrats! Huge weight off.
One on of my moves I ended up living in an extended stay with my wife and kids for like 6 weeks because things kept moving a week at a time. It seemed like it was going to be awful, but I honestly have fond memories looking back. Sometimes these timing things that don’t work out end up being little blessings

Thanks man! I’m not as worries about it as my wife seems to be at the moment. I’m looking forward to living at the new location and with a house built exactly how we want it.

Also, just picked up that Rogue Y-2 yoke last night! Got it for $465. Now to build my house around my ideal weight room, haha. In case you’re unfamiliar, here is a pic from Rogue’s site (mine did not come with the side plate storage, just the 4 pegs on the feet)

Awesome! Definitely looking forward to seeing this in action

Congrats on selling the house! You are gonna enjoy the new weight room you will build for sure. That rack looks amazing.

So strongman isn’t off the plate?

So it’s beginning to look like your basement will have posts for structural support only… no interior walls. The flooring will be rubber mats like a gym. And the ceilings will be 9 or 10 feet tall to allow you to do overhead stuff. It will be your strongman bunker. I like it.

@TrainForPain - Thanks man, should be fun, in a torture kind of way…

@losthog - Thank you! I am looking forward to the building process and really being able to make the house exactly like I want it! Ya, it’s a nice multi-purpose rack. Adds a few lift variations to the arsenal while actually reducing my gym footprint after I sell my main rack. (or least that’s what I tell my wife…)

@Koestrizer - Never! Strongman is still where my interest in training lies. Powerlifting just grabbed a temporary hold of me since I can be competitive locally. After this comp (and I get my gym established) I’ll likely be dabbling with some strongman fun again.

@Frank_C - You pretty much described what I’m hoping for!
