On the whole snowing issue for the south of the USA, Texas did not adjust well to it either. Freaking wrecks everywhere, and everyone (including myself), was slipping and busting their butts on the frozen sidewalks and pathways.

Interstate 45 Was a legit danger zone for everyone lol.

Walking on ice and snow is a skill

I’d imagine that skill doesn’t really get honed if you live in Texas

You have an exceptional imagination!

I’d like to see what would happen if a Texan and a Finn were to switch places for a year or so

Just because Finland is small and it can get really cold sometimes (not so much anymore but still) whereas Texas is big and hot

I like to imagine that the Finnish guy would do better as we still have summer here (crazy right) and a lot of people go to warm countries during the holidays/study abroad in a warmer country, but I don’t really see Texans visiting the Nordic countries that much

I guess the worst part for a Finn would be the size of the country and social interactions. We like everything to be small and comfy here. I guess it’s pretty even after all.

@countrygirl2016 - Thanks! How have you been? Are you back now? I appreciate you poking in.

@danteism - Thanks man, hope things are going well with you (been falling behind on my log reading recently).

@BOTSLAYER - Bahaha, just riding that fame-train.

@planetcybertron - Well, we experience severe winter storm events every winter and you think people would learn to adjust…not so much. Unfortunately the first winter event of the year will typically claim several lives to not adjusting driving habits to the road conditions.

I found out I’m being shipped to a hotel tonight! No workout for me today. Fortunately it is only for 1 day then I can get back at it. I’ll be doing a 3-day per week template for a while until life settles down.

Nice!

Can we spice these up with someone kicking you in the stomach? I feel like that’s a thing right now…

@Frank_C - Lol, those 45s planks were plenty difficult enough without the stomach kicks. Maybe in a few weeks!

@kleinhound - Haha, thanks dude. When I put on a bit of fat a lot of it seems to go to the right places! Cue: :musical_note: ā€œā€¦all the right junk in all the right placesā€ :musical_note:

Rocked a low cal day yesterday after seeing nearly 216lbs on the scale. This morning’s weight = 213.4lbs. Shed some water bloat from the weekend binge.

I have 3 more weekends in the row of pre-planned binge drinking (baseball team party, The Glorious Sons concert, and our second annual sports bet party). After these wonderful events I’m going to jump on the cut train. This should line up nicely with general life because the next 3 weeks will be busy. If I’m lucky, and don’t procrastinate too much (I’m good at procrastinating) things should be smooth sailing after that. Then I can put more focus back into training/nutrition/etc.
I feel like I’m still in a good spot as strength has been increasing and my metabolism is just revving (eating a metric boatload every day tends to do that for me). This will give me 8 weeks to go hard on a cut. This strategy works for me as I’m an all or nothing kind of dieter.

*Plans subject to change (read: likely to change) as the exact date for my first powerlifting competition has not yet been released (They did say on their IG that they are thinking June). Once I know this I may need to make some adjustments as that will become my priority.

5/3/1 Beyond 1.2 - W2D1

CONVENTIONAL DEADLIFT
135 x 5
225 x 5
315 x 5
365 x 1
415 x 3 x 7sets keeping rest ~1min.

All sets quite easy. Been awhile since I did conventional so the lower back was pretty pumped up from these. I’ll be keeping both types of deadlift in my training. Ill use whatever form I"m feeling most comfortable with come my first PL meet (anticipating sumo though).

STRICT PRESS
135 x 3
155 x 3
175 x 3
195 x 8

All moved pretty well. 8th rep got out in front of me a bit.

Lots of banded shoulder work, some back extensions and barbell curls.

Good little workout.

SQUAT
295 x 5
335 x 5
375 x 5
445 x 5 ← I was excited until I went to take the weight off and noticed I missed the second set of 10’s. This was actually 425 instead. Fail.

BENCH (60s rest)
240 x 5 x 7sets

I went with index finger on the rings, the wide grip felt good.

Some band stuff.

5/3/1 W2D3
Warming up I ended up tweaking my back a bit, so I kept volume low but wanted to go up and hit something heavy anyways.

DEADLIFT (Conv.)
135 x 5
225 x 3
315 x 1
365 x 1
405 x 1
455 x 1
495 x 1
545 x 1 ← Hook grip PR I think.
585 x 0 ← Hook was failing a bit/tearing my thumbs so I quit. Got pissed and went full cheat mode. Straps and sumo for next attempt.
585 x 1
315 x 10 - Back to conventional with straps here.

Failing 585lbs rattled me a bit, so I decided to do something fun and chase a shoulder pump. I found it.

SEATED BTN PRESS
45 x 12
95 x 12 x 4sets

LAT RAISES
15lbs x 15 x 4sets

Shoulder pump was niiiice.
