Making Transdermal Magnesium?

I was wondering if you could make your own transdermal mg? Mg is so so important and I can’t live without it. There seems to be all this hype about transdermal mg so I want some feedback on a recipe to make your own. Would using something like Soak T work? I’ve also been reading the book The Magnesium Miracle. Good read! Thoughts?

Epsom salt baths are probably a good place to start. I don’t really fit in a standard sized bath tub, but I’ve experimented with just using the epsom salts in the shower, not quite as effective, but still a noticeable reduction in DOMS and inflammation.

I spend a small amount of time looking at this for the sake of another member here and found zero scientific evidence of magnesium salts being significantly transported through the skin.

Additionally, I spent several years of graduate research in the field of predicting transdermal delivery from physicochemical properties and developed, along with my professor, a quite good way of doing this (the Roberts-Sloan equation) and by that method at least, transdermal delivery would be extremely low.

The reason is that for reasonable transdermal delivery at least some lipid (fat) solubility is necessary. Magnesium ions have zero fat solubility.

The fundamental question though is one of trying to do things a completely unnecessarily hard way. It is extremely easy to take, for example, magnesium citrate capsules orally.

Have you heard of Poliquin’s transdermal magnesium? I do not know what’s in it, but I’ve heard it is good. I also want to try his Ubermag.

Do you know if there is a good test to find out what one’s magnesium levels are?

Symptoms of Magnesium Deficiency?

What are some of the symptoms of magnesium deficiency? They are outlined beautifully in a recent article by Dr. Sidney Baker. Magnesium deficiency can affect virtually every organ system of the body.

With regard to skeletal muscle, one may experience twitches, cramps, muscle tension, muscle soreness, including back aches, neck pain, tension headaches and jaw joint (or TMJ) dysfunction. Also, one may experience chest tightness or a peculiar sensation that he can’t take a deep breath. Sometimes a person may sigh a lot.

Symptoms involving impaired contraction of smooth muscles include constipation; urinary spasms; menstrual cramps; difficulty swallowing or a lump in the throat-especially provoked by eating sugar; photophobia, especially difficulty adjusting to oncoming bright headlights in the absence of eye disease; and loud noise sensitivity from stapedius muscle tension in the ear.

Other symptoms and signs of magnesium deficiency and discuss laboratory testing for this common condition. Continuing with the symptoms of magnesium deficiency, the central nervous system is markedly affected. Symptoms include insomnia, anxiety, hyperactivity and restlessness with constant movement, panic attacks, agoraphobia, and premenstrual irritability.

Magnesium deficiency symptoms involving the peripheral nervous system include numbness, tingling, and other abnormal sensations, such as zips, zaps and vibratory sensations.

Symptoms or signs of the cardiovascular system include palpitations, heart arrhythmias, angina due to spasms of the coronary arteries, high blood pressure and mitral valve prolapse. Be aware that not all of the symptoms need to be present to presume magnesium deficiency; but, many of them often occur together. For example, people with mitral valve prolapse frequently have palpitations, anxiety, panic attacks and premenstrual symptoms.

People with magnesium deficiency often seem to be “uptight.” Other general symptoms include a salt craving, both carbohydrate craving and carbohydrate intolerance, especially of chocolate, and breast tenderness.

For the reasons I stated above, I have high certainty that regardless of the person selling it and regardless of claims and testimonies made (definitely without actual proof) transdermal is no effective way to deliver magnesium.

Again, wanting a test is making things needlessly complicated. Just take in a proper amount!
