So glad that your wrist is feeling better (and functional!) Nice job on the 585 pull. PR’s are the best feeling, especially when you’ve been patiently waiting, holding back due to injury. You must be doing back flips in celebration. Can’t wait to see the vid.
Video of the 585 pull.
Maybe would get some red lights from strict judges. Knees were locked out but hips may have been just short of lockout. You can hear coach at the end: “Did he lock that?” What you can’t hear is what he said next: “His ass is so big I can’t really tell!” Fucker. Guess I need some LWI?

-standing BB bicep curl; bar x 3x10; wrist felt a little weird for a few reps, after which I just tried to make my wrist as tight and straight as possible and it was ok. at this point it seems like the issue is with wrist extension, there’s still something in there causing problems.

LMAO. You’re coach is right. You do have a big ass, but if it helps you pull PR’s who cares! Can’t wait to see you hit 600.
You locked that shit out, no doubt!

R wrist k-taped today, feeling a little worse off than on Tuesday. Decided to do safety bar instead of straight bar squats today so wrist wouldn’t have to be extended. First time in a long while I’ve done heavy speed squats, also the first time in the monolift for a while too.
-safety bar dynamic effort 15" box squats (bar=65)
barx5, 115x5, 155x5
multi ply suit on straps down, belt on
245 x2 couldn’t get down to the box w/out losing arch; weight too light for the suit
335 x 2x2 lil bit better
365 x 4x2
415 x 2x2
-zercher harness pin pull from pin 5
bar x6, 135x10, 185 x5, 225 x5, 255 x5, 275 x 2x5
-superset x3
A1) GHR BW x10
A2) rev hyper 230 x10
A3) standing abs 90 x10
I hate that you have a monolift.
Seriously. Hate you.
Glad to see your wrist is doing better brother, keep kickin ass.
More metal for you:

Thanks DF. Loves me some Dethklok, the cartoon is pretty meh but the band makes killer metal.
I pay an arm and a leg for the privilege to use that monolift. Worth every penny. I say, when you are able, you should get yourself into a real powerlifting gym. Having an environment like the one I train in is invaluable. Lots of motivation and knowledge from other people.
Monday 3/14
BW= 252.8
-sled drag 3 plates x 6 trips; felt like 6 plates today! wet asphalt makes sleds thrice as heavy
-sled press 3 plates x1

-mini band one arm tri pushdown 3x20
-incline prone Y, T, I 3x10 each

-Arch bar DE bench; wrist wraps on for all sets
95x10, 135 x 3x3, 165 x 4x3
wrist felt pretty good on these, still a little weak but best in a while
-incline plate loaded lever row on 4 grip settings, narrow to wide x 2 for 8 sets total
90x10, 110 x 7x10
could’ve gone heavier but wanted to go easy on the wrist, getting it used to volume again

-neutral grip chins BW x5, x5, x5, x5

Only caught it recently while I was channel surfing, but that plotline does sound pretty awesome.
New Goal: Enter powerlifting meet that my gym is hosting in late May, date not determined yet, and get at least a 1600 total: 600 squat, 400 bench, 600 deadlift. This will (still) be my first meet ever. I will be in the 275 lb class. I will be using a multi ply Metal squatter suit for my squat and pull. I will be using a single ply Katana bench shirt. Pretty sure the federation will be UPA.
Current PRs
Squat: 555 squat in multi ply suit. I have done this weight against strong green bands since this PR, didn’t get depth though. Video is up above, from Jan 29.
Bench: 405 in single ply shirt, before I recently injured my wrist. This lift may be my weakest number, but I’m content with taking it easy and going for 400 just to get a number up there.
Deadlift: 585 sumo stance in single ply suit last week. This is my favorite lift and my body is suited well for it (read: I got a big ass). I will be hitting it hard to try to get it over 600.
Taking into consideration a one week deload before the meet, this leaves the rest of March, all of April, and two-three weeks in May for me to get stronger. It’s clobberin’ time.
Sounds like you have a good plan, plenty of time and reasonable goals. The cheerleader in me will be rooting you on (if from afar.)
Also glad to hear that the wrist is getting better and you aren’t going to push it on the bench.
Hell yeah dude, May isn’t far away so you’ll get to put the ‘first meet’ notch in your belt in no time.
I have zero doubt that you’ll be able to hit over a 600lb DL by then. No doubt.
Keep killing it bro.
Oh, and Dethklok rules!
Wow, you haven’t even done your first meet yet and you’re this full of awesome?
Great work, your May goal is feasible with your wrist, which I’m sure will be tip-top way before the meet.
A big ass can’t be a bad thing in any part of life, cherish the PRs it gets you.
Thanks for checking in and rooting for me. My wrist is feeling good now. Smashed a squat PR tonight! Well not “smashed” exactly but I set a new squat PR. Stoked to say the least. Log update and video to follow.
But first, some motivating music.
Edit: page 4, woot!
Tuesday 3/15
BW= 253.2
-Prowler for warmup; raining tonight and sled is freaking terrible in the rain so I decided to torture myself and do prowler instead. At least it was over quicker.
2 plates per side x2 trips, x2 trips
-mini band hip abduction 3x20
-green band TKE 3x20
-stretches: hip flexors, groin, IT bands
-PVC roller: hip flexors, IT bands, glutes
-BW box squats x some
-Safety bar (bar=65 lbs.) 15" box squat
bar x10, 115 x10, 155 x5, 205 x5
belt on
245 x3
multi ply suit on straps down, belt on
295 x3 barely made it down to the box
335 x3
385 x3
425 x1
475 x1 Shitty unrack
515 x1
545 x1 Inhaled smelling salts before, expecting it to be the older salts that weren’t as strong, nope they were new! Singed my nosehairs and made me cry but helped me get the rep!
565 x1 Spotter touched the bar lightly, but I’m still counting it. It was an ugly rep but I got it up. Coach says that with this bar and the box, I could have up to 100 lbs carryover on straight bar squat w/out a box. This is a 10lb PR over my last squat PR, which was with a straight bar and no box. Counts as a PR smash, no?
-Big cambered bar (bar=60) 38" chain suspended GM
240 x 5x5
-Superset x3
A1) GHR BW x10
A2) Rev hyper 270 x10
A3) seated pulley abs x10
In other news, I got to have a squat dropped on me tonight. Lucky for me it was a silly Crossfitter, so it wasn’t that much weight. Take note: this is not how you fail on a squat in the monolift. I’m the spotter on the right.
You can hear coach at the end, “that’s never going to happen again!” Indeed. He had to go push the prowler for 10 trips in the rain for that move.
First off, your squats were beyond beastly. And hell yeah that’s a PR smash! Good. Fucking. Job.
Secondly, now I’ve never squatted in a monolift before, but I would NEVER, after missing a squat and dumping it into the spotters’ arms, back out of it like “I’m good”. WTF!?
Stupid douche.
Thirdly, I’m so jealous of your gym and coach and whole environment there. Being there would instanly raise all my lifts, no doubt!

Thanks, Ink. I’m getting excited to compete. I’ll probably have the same pre-meet jitters you’re experiencing now, but not until April probably.
I’ve said it before, but I pay out a good chunk of my paycheck to train where I do. It’s hard to see the money go every month, but the coaching, technique training, and PRs make it worthwhile. The environment is definitely helping me get stronger. There’s no way I would have gotten to where I am now training by myself in a 24 Hour Fitness. I would recommend getting into a real PL gym if you can find one in your area. Even if you can only make it there to train once a week, it will do a lot for reaching your goals. That being said, I’m pretty sure that my gym is a head above some of the other PL gyms in my area, so not all gyms are created equal.
Monolift squatting takes a little bit to get used to. That guy trains Crossfit mostly, and they do Olympic style lifts for the most part, so he is probably used to bailing out from the bar like Oly lifters do. Can’t do that in the mono. Basically comes down to trusting your spotters. When you fail in the mono you have to stay under the bar, trust that the spotters will catch the bar and help you up. We were lucky he was only going for 315, or we all would have gotten crushed! Now he knows.
