Good afternoon Coach! First I just wanted to say thank you for all the great work! Your programs and nutrition advice have helped me make more progress than anything else and I have been training for seven years! I’ve gotten away from the gyms and have been working out in my garage for the past year now. I’ve been doing a low intensity split inspired by your “Pump Down the Volume” article. I hit each muscle 3x per week in a full body split with 2 giant sets beyond failure per muscle each workout. I was just wondering if this is optimal considering my life is pretty stressful at the moment or if hitting an upper/lower or push/pull split would be better.
Thanks! I hope you have a great 4th of July weekend!
Honestly, only you can know if it is optimal. How you are feeling on a daily basis, the quality of your workouts and your motivation are the best sign of whether you can handle that type of training.
And don’t forget that even what works best for you, doesn’t keep working “the best” forever. I strongly believe that for the best long term progression, you must sometimes completely change the way you train (when your body is adapted to what you are doing).
