Low T at 21 Years Old, Male

Went to the doctor to go over my blood results, testosterone is 500 , 21 male. The doctor has me scheduled to go in tomorrow for testosterone pellets, I do have symptoms of low T.
I’ve heard pellets suck, just looking for others experiences.
what should i do? Which supplements work?

What’s your free testosterone?

You cool with taking T for the rest of your life?

Why?

What’s wrong with your TT? And we have no clinical picture, you just shared your TT result.

Dont do it mate, you are way too young to jump on TRT without exhausting all other possibilities 1st.

And definitely dont do pellets as an intro to androgen replacement, almost impossible to dial in with those i would imagine

Not knowing the Dr’s side of things, i’d say this is hugely malpractice.

I would ABSOLUTELY not jump on TRT.

If no Free T was measured and all you have is a Total T result, starting TRT at this point is premature.

Pellets are fine as long as you don’t mind having low levels and symptoms closer to the next pellet insertion.

Also pellets doesn’t offer a great deal of control over your levels, so you can have crazy high levels at the start of treatment and you’re stuck with these high levels for a while.

Unfortunately, no one here can tell you since there is so much missing information. It is important to know the complete details, particularly with one of your age.

I know some are laced with anabolic steroids. They work.

I would not use them, for multiple reasons. However, since they do exist, some must like them and get good results. I know a few TRT doctors who use pellets exclusively, and they have large practices so their patients are happy as they keep getting them and they refer their friends. I also know some who use pellets because of the increased profit margin which makes good sense from a business perspective, but not necessarily clinically.

I could say I have seen many who used pellets and did not like them, and it would be true, but a biased assessment. Those happy with their pellets are not showing up in my office to get injections or a transdermal cream.

Make absolutely sure you are making a thoroughly informed decision.

Great post.

I dont think you are a candidate for TRT. And your doc is doing malpractice by understanding you need T replacement just because you have 500 Total T.
How about the rest? Do yourself a favor and run a full hormonal panel to know Total T, Free T, LH, FSH, SHBG, DHEA-S, E2, Prolactin, TSH, Free T3.
This should help you understand better where you are.

Either way, at 21 and unless something is very wrong with the other hormones you have not tested, i am sure you should not jump to TRT.

thanks alot

You said your test is at 500, is that on the standard range from 264-920? I know from time to time other reference ranges are quoted, but I’m not sure why there’s more than one range. Unless you’re using different UOM
