Low GI MRP's?

What can you mix a protein powder with to make a low Glycemic index meal replacement? Most commercial products contain maltodextrin, which is metabolicly the same as table sugar. I noticed EAS/Myoplex deluxe now has brown rice syrup. It digests much slower and has a much slower GI rating. Does anybody know where this could be purchased or a less expensive (than EAS) product that would be similar. I am trying to loose weight, up my protein intake, decrease my sugar at the same time. Thanks for the help.

first off i would not say malto is the same as table sugar.
but that point is useless.

I would say if you are looking to lose fat, then you probably would want to omitt carbs in general save those selective times of day when they are required, i.e. maybe p w/o. And with those times i would go with fruit.

brown rice has a relatively high GI(~75 i believe), so that is out of the question.

i bet your best bet is to just blend fresh low GI fruit into your food as the added fiber is a great way to lower the glycemic load.

You could throw some raw oats in your protein drink. That would require you to chew your shake, however, and may not appeal to you. Why not have a low-carb protein drink and a piece of fruit (apple, peach, pear, etc.) with it? Metabolic Drive complete has low GI carbs, and would be an option as well.

I took a look at Metabolic Drive, it looked pretty good. I also found 16oz brown rice syrups from $6. Serving: 2 tsp, cal 132, carb 38. The American Diabetic Association says brown rice syrup contains a mix of complex carbs that digest over 1.5 to 3.5 hours. Mix that with some fiber and protein and I should get a slow steady blood sugar increase, which should help with hunger and weight loss. Other than that the carb free protein plus fruit sounds like my best option. Thanks.
