Ha. We call that praying my friend. I do it in the morning before my feet hit the floor most days.
I do need to get some time off away from things. Just me, I missed spring break when I usually do it. But I’ll be good. Thx

Looks you need to pray more or change gods !!!
Hahahaha.
Your input is well noted and I agree. I need some recharge time to read a book, fish, ride a motorcycle, something fun.
Right now life is kicking my ass.
I was talking to God in the shower and was asking him why am I so cursed.
I think you’re blessed, man.
You discovered lifting and hit PR’s that I haven’t hit despite you being 15+ years older.
You have a job that involves fitness and shaping the youth.
You get to lift with your son.
You have a house, food, and running water (unless R. Kelly is moonlighting as your showerhead).
The glass is also half full, ya know? As a bonus, you have my admiration, which may not count for much, but you’re an inspiring lifter to follow and I’m grateful to be able to converse with you. Keep your head up, and remember, there’s always someone who has it worse.
^^ I second that. God is good Hog, he’ll take care of you. We never understand his plan until it’s already played out. Keep your eyes open for signs, He will guide you in the right direction and you’ll find your way back to the weights when the time is right.
Back at work today!
Morning was good. Wasn’t hungry at lunch, ran out of gas by early afternoon. Force fed myself at my prep and went to athletics periods. Made it through the day feeling better than when I got to work. I’ll take that as a win.
Throat is still sore but drinking fluids doesn’t hurt anymore. Food is still a chore to swallow. Only a low low fever today. Still on the mend 80% or so.
Actually had the desire to exercise some today.
I may go for a small walk later.
PM weight: 263.4.
Not at the same time though…
I’m not too religious Hog, but I second every word @flappinit said.
You are very inspiring and have hit some big, very big lifts during a year of lifting.
I’m sorry to read that you run into shit all the time Hog.
I’ll send out a little prayer that you’ll recover soon and will be back on track.
Thx @mortdk. I am feeling much better.
Amen to that, brother! It’s easy to lose sight of what you have, I have definitely been there. You have a great family, a hobby that will keep you strong into old age… what more do you need?
As far as unwinding goes, in addition to lifting, I enjoy accomplishing stuff on the house (not the doing as much as the satisfaction that comes with having it done tbh), I do a lot of Netflix and chill (or Amazon Prime or HBO Now, Netflix doesn’t have everything) with the wife, and every other Friday is Dungeons and Dragons with the kids… yes, I am still an enormous geek even in my old age ![]()
Keep trucking dude.
So, Thursday almost a week away from feeling like a zombie. I was at the end of a 531, 3 week cycle. The plan…after this week off?
I’m gonna just hit the same 531, same numbers and try to beat my rep prs (especially for squat).
Mate, you’ve been through the ringer being crook a few times in a row, your body will be feeling raped. Once your finally feeling better, take some more time off and FFS start back really light this time.
Yeah I’m thinking two weeks off won’t kill me at this point. Especially considering how the weight is coming off me right now. I may take another week and just run the weight down to a new starting place.
Weight this morning: 260.6 lbs.
Weight a week ago before being sick: 272 lbs
going to get shredded in no time ![]()
When you do return triumphantly to the gym, I think you should beat your glute/ham raise PR. Then the squat. You can go as hard as you want with “assistance” exercises for a week or two to Reload before you jump right into barbell PRs.
I agree with Luc. When I saw this:
I thought it sounded like a bad way to bounce back from an illness. You’d be better off capping your sets well before rep PR territory. You’re down 12 lbs just from being sick, which means you’re depleted. All of your body’s energy has been fighting off an illness. It doesn’t have much left in the tank for PRs.
Give yourself some extra time to rest (like you said above) but also maybe ease back into the training with some 5’s PRO for the first week or so.
I’m thinking this is def what he needs as he won’t be able to help himself. When I hit the iron after a bad flu a few years back where I lost 10kg of weight I was a weak as a kitten for about a month.
That’s encouraging…![]()
