45x10
135x5 (these felt heavy)
185x5
225x5 (these felt really heavy…guess you see where this is going)
255x3
295x3
335x3 (uggh these were not easy…but not a bad strain)
385x0 (put the weight on the bar…called it a day)
We cleaned up the gym and left. Wasn’t motivated at all to workout tonight. Got most of the main sets done and called it a day…
I’m human and don’t feel bad. Thinking of taking the rest of the week off. Resetting some training maxes and starting again. I got a little too ambitious with this last three weeks and it’s not going to happen. I’ll deload, reset and lift again within the recoverable margins.
Your body is telling you what @MarkKO was saying last week
It’s not about killing yourself; it’s about generating volume in the right ranges. You know this!
I think you’ve reaped most of your rewards through your volume work — not your main work. Think back to Dark Horse and then look at your 5/3/1 volume sets. You had quality back off sets that accumulated volume. I really think that’s the reason for your success. Remember that, and maybe don’t bury yourself every day you step in the rack!
You just hit your OHP TM for a triple this week. You’re definitely pushing your limits. I’m happy to see you demonstrate a little autoregulation. Can you do any drills at practice? Get out there and play with the kids a bit and get some active rest.
EDIT: I know I’ve said most of these things before (recently too) but it’s worth repeating.
Ok crew here comes the next phase is building and older lifter into something that represents a strength guy. I found a coach. Ben Pollack has a special for group coaching going right now so I signed up…
I start a power building program on Monday with access to a great mind in the sport. I’m excited to get some feedback from the coach. Not to excited about the program I’ll run Power building is another way to say hypertrophy. Just what I need more size.
I realize today with this shift in training I’ve come full circle and started absorbing information again. When I first started I couldn’t read enough, watch enough, or talk about training enough. Somewhere along the way I got comfortable with what I knew and worked with that information. I’m back into a place where I’m seeking information…it’s a good place to be.
