The guy is old as Hell and an actor…and he DL. I have a huge amount of respect for Hugh than any other actor out right now.

I’m going to pretend you’re being facetious.

Well he is a mutant that has healing abilities. Did you not watch X-men Origins Wolverine? It explains he is Old as Hell.

Plus how old is he? I bet he was not lifting when he was in his 20’s.
He’ll be 45 in October.
Turns out he was on a local morning news/talk show with his trainer last week, and in the very end of this clip (like literally in the last 10 seconds) they ask how much he can deadlift.
He says something like, “In pounds, what do I have, about four hundred and thirty…?” And his trainer jumps in with, “About 500 pounds.” Ha, close enough I guess. 430, 460, 500. Same diff.
Anyhow, yep, good on him for being in better shape than most guys his age, let alone most actors his age.
you know, for some reason I cant really put my finger on, I REALLY fucking hate it when trainers inflate the numbers like that. I mean, Hugh undervalued himself in the interview, it wouldnt have done any harm to just say “465”…you still impress the fuck out of nonlifters, you still do everything.
I know…totally majoring in the minors. but it fucking pisses me off! I fucking hate it.
mad respect to hugh though. anybody who thinks that isn’t scary impressive for a 45 year old actor is out of their minds. I mean…he’s not an iron head, he’s an actor. and halfway to fifty. and its 2.5x bodyweight, which is damn good no matter what. I always liked him anyway, he comes off as a pretty normal nice guy and I have a soft spot for celebrities like that. kinda like rooting for the underdog in sports.
^Aussie actors man. All bros. Every single one of them.

It just seemed to me, a guy who has an expensive trainer, with tons of cash, and who’s job it is to get in shape, 460 isn’t that impressive.
C’mon, DD, if he lifted any more than that, he’d be “too big”. ![]()
Really though, with a high-profile client like that, the trainer’s number 1 job is “do no harm”. Just like with pro athletes. Chasing numbers/strength is a distant second. Let’s say the trainer decided to push for Jackman to pull 500, even if Jackman said “yeah, that sounds cool”, but he pops a low back disc in the process. Acting - halted. Film production - halted. Trainer - fired.
And how much does he weigh. Looks like he is 170 at best. 460 is alright then in terms of strength
170 at 6 2?
reading around it says 190 a few places.
6’2 lol I’m sorry I don’t buy it. I wouldn’t even buy 6’. And weight I would imagine is also exaggerated
FWIW, I stood very close to him a few years ago. I’m 5’10, and he was definitely several inches taller than me. I was surprised, since I assume most actors are going to be shorter than they appear on screen. I can’t speculate on weight, because this was a while ago, but 180-190 at that height seems reasonable to me.

How much do you want him to pull?
460lbs is probably in the top 2% of all lifters on the planet.
In what universe has 460 become “not impressive?”
Bingo indeed!

Trainer - fired? If that wasn’t bad enough, he’d be known in the celebrity trainer circles as the guy that broke Hugh Jackman. He’d have a hard time getting anything other than PT work at 24 hr. Fitness.

LMAAOOO
my thought exactly. Lighting and camera angle account for 50 percent of aesthetics.

Saw this today.
Dan John defines a game changing deadlift to be double bodyweight, a standard for athletes outside of powerlifting, Olympic lifting, etc. Jackman is doing a double bodyweight deadlift as a 45 year old actor. I’m sure he isn’t losing any roles by not pulling 500+.
