Hi, I’m a senior in college majoring in political science. I’m planning on doing an independent study about steroids and steroid policy this semester, and I’m wondering if anyone knows of any books or journal articles, or any other resource for that matter, concerning this subject. I’m looking for info about the history and scope of steroid use in America as well as governmental policies and steroid prohibition.
So, if anyone knows of any good sources or places to look for them, I would appreciate a reply. I’ve been searching the databases at my school library, but I figured there’s bound to be some experts on this forum. Thanks!
for history hit the library of congress some papers regarding CIBA’s involvement in the development of Anabolic Steroids.
As for the laws I can’t help you there.

Thanks for the help.
Look up Rick Collins–he’s a lawyer that wrote a book on steroid use/history/law. Called “Legal Muscle”. There may be some other books available, I don’t know, but I do know that most books these days are sensationalist/expose style pieces that exaggerate side effects.
I’d also suggest doing research on the science behind this–it is my firm belief that one should try to understand the source of information at as basic a level as possible (analogous to using primary texts vs. secondary texts or meta-searches for sourcing a paper). It won’t be easy, but I’m positive that if more lawmakers/media heads bothered to try and understand the science literature we wouldn’t be in AS big a mess today. Pubmed, articles by Cy wilson here, and bill roberts here and on mesomorphosis and other sites will be a good starting point.
