Looking for Advice - False Rape Accusation

Relevant anecdote: I know several foster families that refuse to take in girls because the threat of rape accusations from girls as a tool is pretty common. In most cases it gets sorted out but it is still a headache. So I think that the false accusations of rape vs actual rape convictions is pretty even.
Relevant sidebar: I work with troubled girls and most of them have a history of sexual abuse. Generally speaking a bad man along the way taught them that sex is power. And now they’re out there, all fucked up and wielding that power indiscriminately.

Of course, you could rewind the tape even further and realize that the bad men who molest little girls were themselves victimized along the way, but then where does it end? Hard to get the blame all sorted out.

That’s why I take people one at a time. So much easier to hate in proper measure that way.
Fair enough. One of those foster families also has an adopted daughter who started out as a foster child. They broke their own rule I know but they now have several girls. Their adopted daughter, who has no real birth records was estimated at 10 and a bone scan concurred with that, basically went through puberty at 9 due to a history of sexual abuse. The lives of these children are tragic for the most part and EM has kinda made me feel bad for dragging them into this.

Quite well, actually.

Part of my reason for not being so active here.

You?
Same lol. A lot of a new things on the horizon.

Actually, dragging them into this was probably appropriate. I think you may have answered the question of what kind of girl/woman commits such an act of malice.

Being scared of a false rape accusation is just about equivalent to being scared of a plane crash, which is the safest way to travel.

Walkway has blown this thing way out of proportion.

FWIW I know a Sailor that was falsely accused and it was ugly. The woman finally admitted it was made up and was separate from the military. Last I heard he’s doing fine with no real ramifications to speak of.
I know 2 people that have been falsely accused of rape. I know 0 people that have died in a plane crash. Ill have to disagree with your comparison.
Lol, ok…
Why is that funny?

If the estimates that 2% of rape accusations are false is correct, and we are talking tens of thousands of accusations per year, the comparison you made is ridiculous.
It’s funny that you’re basing your perspective on such a small sample size (your experiences). The comparison is not ridiculous because 2% of reported rapes is a couple thousand not tens of thousands. 84,376 x .02 = 1,688. That’s pretty close (slightly higher) to plane crash fatalities I posted earlier in thread.

Edit:

Just so we’re clear the situation for your two friends is not funny and if you thought I was making light of their situation, I apologize. Real rape & false rape accusations are not laughing matters.

I didnt say that false rape accusations amounted to tens of thousands. And does that statistic for forcible rape include things like date rape or slipping someone a roofie and taking advantage of them?

Also, where is there a number for airplane fatalities that is close? And when people say they are scared of dying in a plame crash, im pretty sure theyre most often referring to commercial airlines. Whens the last time there was a fatal commercial airline crash in the US?

You’re right, you said accusations. My bad. I’d have to look up the stats again to answer your questions.

Okay, you don’t like the comparison, fine. How about fatal car crashes in the U.S. CDC puts that number at 5,742 for 25-34 year olds. Much higher than 2%. You still drive right? How about accidental drowning? That’s about 3,500 for all ages. Higher than 2% of the FBI reported numbers. You still shower right?

It’s one thing to be scared to death of something ridiculous. Like being eaten by a shark while living in Ohio for example. It’s an entirely different thing to get on your internet soap box and preach about how bad the problem is and how unfair it is for sharks to indiscriminately pick their victims.

You take 1 or 2 precautions and your chances of being falsely accused plummet. You wouldn’t chum the waters off Seal Island and go for a swim would you?

Isn’t that true of being raped as well?

Sure, for the most part. It’s true for a lot of things.

Back in the old days we called this “common sense.”

But then it sort of stopped being common, I guess.
Sounding pretty curmudgeonly there, Chush. Hey you kids, get offa my lawn!

You’ve been out of the game too long. I see people your age without a lick of it, and sensible little kids who are forced to fret and stew about their parents’ and grandparents’ safety. Parentification: alive and well in 2014.

On the other hand, what relevance has ANY piece of Bill Cosby’s life to the average guy’s unless viewed as a blueprint for achieving phenomenal success in comedy?

just saying that anyone can be falsely accused of rape… and a good portion of people (women) will believe it.

no man is safe O_o

female child rapists are safe tho, so no worries there

some folks might not like the answers, but…

 1. Avoid 1 night stands with questionable people or while intoxicated.

 2. Avoid casual sex with women you meet on tinder or some guys party or Craiglist or adult friend finder… (I think you get the idea)

3.) Novel concept, know the girl for more than a hour before fucking.

I’m sure they’re others, but I’m only posting because the Raiders game is interesting.

They just won actually!

what about the case of William mcaffery who was ‘convicted’ and sentenced to 20 years even though he didn’t even touch the girl?

Yes, I think it may all boil down to knowing the persons with whom you sleep well enough to develop some insight into their character. (Since this is TNation, I suppose I should add that you should only sleep with the ones who evidence GOOD character.)

In general, to avoid dangers of all sorts, don’t get drunk among strangers, at least without having a less-drunk someone present to keep an eye on you.

These should reduce both the likelihood of rape and false reporting.

Obviously that’s a tragic story that brings up important questions about our legal system. It doesn’t however refute usmc’s common sense recommendations for managing your risk (and being a reasonable human being, IMO). People do evil shit to each other. There’s only so far a person can reasonably go to protect themselves from every conceivable crazy/evil thing that might befall them.

As an aside, if you can be convicted of raping a girl you’ve never touched, that would seem to indicate that wholesale abstinance isn’t an effective strategy for avoiding the scourge of false rape allegations, wouldn’t it?
