I work from home full-time. I honestly have a few hours a day of actual work/calls, which leaves a lot of free time. I am trying to figure out a way to monetize that time. Right now I play online poker as I can, but I suck at cash games. That leaves tournaments that can take a few hours which makes it hard to always fit in. I make more than I lose, for sure, but it doesn’t really justify the time commitment. I really need something to make better use of all this free time. My industry is really small, so I couldn’t do any kind of consulting without outing myself. Any thoughts are appreciated.
I hear a new moderator position opened on the T-Nation forums…
Single table Sit N Go tournaments go fast, usually like an hour. If you can adjust your game to the usually short handed, usually short stacked Sit N Go style you might get paid faster.
The site I play on doesn’t really have any Sit N Go tournaments run. They are an option, but they never fill up. Where do you play?
I last played on “Ignition,” only that was a few years ago now. I kinda forgot about sitting there for an hour before you even start, waiting for a table fill up.
Doordash, Ubereats, etc. My daughter makes a few bucks this way. Enough to justify her time
I have to be able to get on my work computer at any time, so those are out. I wouldn’t mind them otherwise.
Gary Vee has been a big advocate of flipping inexpensive stuff on Ebay. Might be something to look into, though there’s a bit of footwork involved. Buying cheap at Dollar stores/Five Below, etc. and putting it online for a profit.
There’s a ton of content online in the last year or three about side hustles and the gig economy. A lot of overlap in the ideas, but a little Googling should bring up some solid (if general) info.
Maybe online tutoring?
You can always look for part-time jobs that seem like you can do them remotely. Be up-front and say you’re remote only (or primarily), then go on to explain why you think you can make this work for them and meet or exceed the expectations of the job.
I recently got a part-time assistant to do my more tedious transactional work involved with procurement. It was advertised as in-person and remote work didn’t even come up during the interview, but I was fine setting her loose to work remotely after the first few weeks. She got it all done, so it didn’t matter to me if she did it at home during whatever weird hours work best for her, her five kids and small zoo. Even though we weren’t looking for a remote part-time person, we are beyond happy with her performance as one.
Maybe the next person in line would have gotten jack-shit done at home and it’s in-office only for that person. She created the remote work and flexible hour opportunity for herself by making it work for us.
I’d also say Mercari is great. Racked up 200$ from selling my nail products I no longer use. Profit trickles In slowly sometimes depending on the demand, but could be worth a shot if you’ve got decent things that need to go or can stand to be decluttered.
