Longevity

Mage, you can always go for the horse pill tablets, convenient at only 9 per day…

In Part II of the article, I also sum up what was said about obesity and TV watching among Americans. Those who watch the most are the most overweight, basically.

When I changed my life around, 3 years ago, my goal was to be the oldest living male in the US. I’ve decided that when I get to the point where there are 10 older than me, I’m killing them.

Ive done a bunch of research on this and to be more specific, the japanese that live on Okinawa are the kings of long life. Like many have said, there are many factors, and the big differences between them and us is:

  1. Diet - vegetarian like but with fish added as their source of protein (not a ton of it either, light meat diet)
  2. Virtually no dairy ( highly correlated to heart disease )
  3. Lower stress and strong family/social support systems
  4. Daily exercise
  5. Low calorie diet ( starvation diets are proven to increase lifespan of rodents and other test creatures as much as 30%!)
  6. No smoking and other bad western habits

So if you really want to live long, you need to be a little skinny dude who barely eats (a clean diet), gets daily exercise, and has a low stress life.

In other words, definitely not the testosterone lifestyle

I think alot of alot of problems are also stress related. Now many different people handle stress in different ways, but the Japanese tend to have a very, pardon the pun, Zen way of looking at life. Americans are amongst some of the most stressed out people in the world. [/quote]

Americans are stressed out. They work longer hours than just about everyone… except the Japanese. The Japanese are #1 in hours worked per person. They also have one of the highest suicide rates in the world. They do not have a “zen way” of looking at life. Sounds like some stereotype you got from the Karate Kid.
They live longer primarily because they get lots of omega 3’s.

She lived to 114? Damn, that’s a lot of taxes.

While 114 is a very impressive number, I would be more interested in her quality of life. Did she live a full life, and what quality of life did she have near the end. 60 full years seems to make a lot more sense than 114 wasted ones.

I don’t know who said it, but it’s not the year the car was made, it’s the number of miles on the clock.

Of course, I’m young and will probably not think like this when I’m 70.

Caloric restriction is the only thing proven to increase lifespan. My guess is that it brings in less toxins, keeps your body cleaner. Definitely not the T-man lifestyle.
