I’m not dogging Adam Sandler. I loved Punch Drunk Love and Spanglish. I laugh my ass of at Billy Madison and The Waterboy.

Oh…yes I forgot: He plays retarded people quite well too!
Adam Sandler has only ever done two funny things in his life, those being Happy Gilmore and the sketch where he plays a toll booth operator (toll booth Willy?). To this day, whenever my friends and I are drunk and pissing each other off “Your gonna die, Bitch! I’m coming out of the booth!” and “Fuck you and your fish eating friends” are still the favoured calling cards.
Having said that, I will see this remake because:
- I haven’t seen the original; and
- Any movie with that many retired wrestlers in it has to be cool.
I don’t like Sandler’s acting, but I’m going to see it anyway because I liked the original so much.
On another note: When you compare Friday Night Lights and Remember The Titans with other football movies, remember that they are both true stories, while most other football movies are not.
On yet another note: How is Michael Irvin going to play a football playing criminal? It’s going to be such a stretch!
The destruction of the classics continues but now with American movies.
First Stallone destroys Michael Caines “GET CARTER”, then comes Mark Wahlberg doing an enjoyable movie but definitely no “ITALIAN JOB”. I thought it was a conspiracy to destroy Mr Caines legacy but now I see Sandler for Burt Reynolds.
Burt Reynolds was a bad-ass T-man and the Longest Yard and Sharky’s Machine are two of my favorite movies. It was in color for christsake why does it need to be re-made?
If this is some British Guys idea of revenge for Get Carter and the Italian Job however, er …I totally approve.
I’ll wait to see it. Sandler’s a pretty good actor so who knows. The first one was great and it’s a good story.
What about North Dallas Forty? Apparently pretty accurate portrayal of those years.
bro i love sandler. i liked happy and waterboy but i think most of his other movies fricken suck. longest yard is a classic and i don’t like it when they fuck w/ classics. the new ones can be good but only if you never saw the original. if you guys liked the first one why torture yourself ? you know you ain’t gonna like it. if you’re ma makes wicked lasagna you gonna order lasagna when you go out just to see if it measures up ? no fricken way ! only way i’m seeing this movie is if i think i’m getting laid.

Burt Reynolds, much like Clint Eastwood, in his day was a mans man. I don’t dislike Adam Sandler, but as doogie said the role is for a Man!
Another Alpha Male role Burt played was in Deliverance. He was the Avenging Angel for the violation that his friends endured and the example Jon Voight had to rise to to save their asses. Yes, Burt in his prime was a bad ass T-Man. [/quote]
Damn straight. Burt was awesome. Clint is the best ever!
Best football movie of all time is Rudy.
Talk about motivational.
You know Zap maybe I’m getting old, but they don’t make em like they used to. I can’t think of any modern day action type heroes that measure up to those guys.
A few other badasses of those long gone days… Robert Redford as Jeremiah Johnson and as the the Sundance Kid. William Holden in the Wild Bunch, Burt Lancaster in numerous roles, hell I even thought that conservative Charleton Heston had some badass roles… Soylent green is people! Damn dirty apes!

yeah bro they blew it up ! goddamn you all to hell !! and how about nova ? what a smokin hot chick just sittin there on that horse following bright eyes around and never sayin a frickn word !
yeah they sure don’t make 'em like that anymore. steve mcqueen. bronson. ule fricken brenner.
Bottom line… Nova was the shit!
Guys, Katharine Ross, who starred in Butch Cassidy awa The Graduate and other flicks, was drop-dead gorgeous. Stunning.
Shoot, I’d probably make love to her today even tho she’s in her 60s!
I guess what it comes down to is one individual’s persepctive of what good acting is and what humor is. Its fine to not care for Adam Sandler but obviously a lot of people like his stuff. I think he is great, funny guy. I can’t say that everything of his is great but a lot of it is.
With all this Sandler bashing, it surprises me that no one has mentioned Chris Rock’s boney ass… as an inmate or football player… THAT is a joke.

Both real good choices, but don’t forget “Malone.”

Glad you brought up Chris Rock! He also makes me sick ![]()

Elk, I don’t ever want to fight with you again about anything.
Jeremiah Johnson is my favorite movie of all time…I tell everyone to see it and have shown it to a bunch of people. But for some reason no one else I know likes it.
Well, I just came in from seeing the new “Longest Yard.” Free (and early) showing on base for military appreciation day.
Pretty good movie. I won’t spoil it, but a few comments:
Chris Rock didn’t play football… he was the “Caretaker”
Sandler did a good job, but I am a fan.
Low point: The cons sneak into the guards locker room and replace the “Anabolic Steroids” (no shit, it said that on the bottle) with estrogen. The results were pretty funny though.
Burt Reynolds is still a badass!
Go see it.

Elkhntr1, Swivel, Joe Weider, I don’t know if the actors today are not as cool or if the overblown special effects they cram into every movie ruins it, but they sure don’t make them like they used to.
I wonder if the Magnificent Seven is on.

I’ve wondered the same thing. And I come down with “both”.
I’d like to see Redford make Jeremiah II.
Johnson went to California eventually, died there and was buried there.
After the movie he was dug up and moved to Wyoming, with Redford delivering the eulogy.
I think an aging Redford could play that with such class and dignity.
