It’s easy enough to read about the short term side effects of AAS but what about the long term?
I would assume gyno is there long term, at least until surgery, and if you get a stroke from high blood pressure you really pay the price. I know some powerlifters (and others too) get joint problems. What else? Are there more long term issues with AAS that one should know about?
possible heart growth, effects of uncontrolled estrogen over time, elevated DHT… so possible prostate, hair issues. Abscesses, increased risk of Cardiovascular disease, atrial fib…
Is prostate growth reversible or treatable somehow?
I have read that with steroid use the bad cholesterol can increase and the good decrease. This causes plaque to build up in the veins (or arteries?) which leads to heart attack ans stroke. Is there anything you can do about it?
If I’m asking the wrong questions, feel free to guide me in another direction.

This is an on cycle problem. Certain drugs are worse on the lipid profile than others though. Most people find that after coming off, their lipid values begin to improve. Omega 3 fat consumption + fiber + b vitamins is a good approach for keeping lipid values healthy. Doing cardio is also a good idea.
How can an enlarged heart and prostate be avoided?
Are these just risks you have to take? I understand that controlling blood pressure or avoiding high blood pressure in the first place is one important step to take, by doing regular CV, taking fish oils daily (I take 6 grams ED) or for some people losing a pint of blood
Is there anything else that can be done to minimize risks?
I only did two relatively mild cycles. The one permanent side effect I can attest to is the hair loss. Pretty much makes it so I can’t really consider another cycle.

My guess is that your genetically predisposed to hair loss. Is male patern baldness common amongst the men in your family?
The strange thing for me is the only side effect I’ve had that I can’t stand is body hair growth, I keep having to shave it off because it freaks me out so much.
Finasteride helps prevent hair loss on cycle, and using mild anabolic steroids like winstrol and primo will spare the hairline.
No doubt I may have some predisposition. Plus I’m no spring chicken (45). But my hairline now is maybe what I would have had at what … 55, 65, 75? It’s hard to say.
Yeah I’ve done lots of research on Propecia and Finasteride - and frankly the sides are scary especially considering that some folks out there have them permanently. I’m still trying to find out those sides might be avoided while on cycle.

Allow me to ad a disclaimer- I’ve never used this, I did read something about it supposedly reducing the likelihood of prostate cancer though.
I was considering this to help prevent body hair growth.
What are the long term effects of not doing things right?
If one has elevated E2, gyno, low libido, prostate enlargement, depression, moody, heavy periods
If not supporting the testes with hCG on long or always-on, hypogonadism tiny balls and sterility
If not doing PCT right, hypogonadism. What is doing PCT right? Not everyone agrees.
Deca only cycles, hypogonadism, some times from a single event and permanent, cannot restart.
5-alpha reductase inhibitors, rare but does happen, totally destroyed HPTA and other libido complications
Some have fragile HPTA’s that are easily damaged. Unfortunately, there is no way to know in advance. These things are rate, but tell that to a guy who has been damaged.
I took Propecia for about two years straight- that was about three years ago. No bad side effects. Stopped taking it once I figured out my hair was just thinning- NOT falling out.
some sides are more compound specific than others, as a note especially with lipids, people have different lipid metabolism’s…some people mild anabolics can actually lower their lipid profile…note i said mild
