2005 Afghanistan Operation redwing. LT Micheal P. Murphy became the first service member to win the medal of honor for his actions in Afghanistan. If you have not read the book Lone survivor by Marcus Luttrell you need to. Great read and a true story about some very brave men who chose the hard right over the easy wrong and ultimately gave their lives.
IF you were in the same situation what would you have done?
Great book, I read it a few years back… Actually tried to join the Navy and started the process to get into SEAL Team and go to BUD/S, had a DQ though and did not want to lie on the waiver so it cut the career short for me lol. I really had a high amount of respect for Lt. Micheal Murphy. I read the book about him called Seal of Courage, and Heart of a Lion, written by Gary Williams. Marcus Luttrell also wrote a book called Service which is another great read. I read American Sniper by Chris Kyle as well which painted a decent picture of how intense the warfare was down in the Middle East. Unfortunately he was killed while helping some vets out but I am sure everyone on here has heard about it. R.I.P. Brave Souls
I am german and read Luttrells Lone Survivor when i was 17 years old. Reread it at least 10 times. It was very moving and i remember crying every time at the same part. It motivated me to apply for the MSK, but I was refused. They did not even let me do basic because i fucked my spine up good when I was younger.
Still reading kick ass books such as American Sniper, Robert’s Ridge and Lions of Kandahar. No easy day was great as well.
I have mad respect for the men and women who serve for our freedom no matter where they are from.
To be honest these guys are highly trained professionals. They eat, sleep and crap special warfare, how the hell should a civilian like me make a better decision than them?
