London Olympics 2012 Thread

I’ve got tickets for the weightlifting. Stoked

I dont live far from the stadium so its gonna be a nightmare for me commuting and travelling in general but im looking forward to the events.

I have only got 1 ticket! thats all they would give me and its for the weightlifting. As much as i know it has to be done fairly (ticket distribution) of all the people i know i dont know anyone with a ticket!! except 1 mate who’s going to see the football.

So where have all the tickets gone?? certainly NOT to Londoners, the ones who have paid for the games and the ones whose lives will suffer the most during it!!

But other than that i cant wait!! lol
Good luck against Blackpool.

And yes, of the 30-40 Londoners that I know who applied for tickets, only 1 got them. We’ve had to put up with Jubilee line upgrades for the last four years, and we don’t even get any sort of priority.

Nevermind, still really really looking forward to it.

How can it be claimed that the coverage was bad?
For example during the winter olympics; none of the skiing events were shown live. Which kinda spoiled every event when you knew who won before getting to watch. In addition, their choice of events to be shown was head scratching, instead of broadcasting the live events. I hope the summer olympics will be different, but i was not pleased with their coverage of the winter games.

and with out getting too political, it sounds about right Londoner’s would only get 1 ticket, and have to foot the bill and deal with the hassle.

I understand what you’re saying, especially since it wasn’t like they were on the other side of the globe, but in BC.

But I utilized all the other avenues to keep up. Plus, the Gold Medal match between US and Canada was a live broadcast, and I watched it in Hawaii of all places. It was probably one of the most exciting and entertaining pieces of sport in my recent memory.

Hate to burst your bubble, but the bikinis are no longer “required” for womens volleyball.
So they can play naked? WIN.

That gold medal game was pretty great, although that teeny bopper punk had to score the last goal…

Im just saying, they better not delay events until “primetime” because honestly EPL matches are show live over here all the time and there is no excuse. Re-broadcasting is also fine.

Beach Volleyball might be the best event there

Don’t be discouraged about tickets at this point.

Out of all of my friends who entered the lottery for tickets in Vancouver, only one or two got tickets to an event.

There are A LOT of events and A LOT MORE tickets to all of these events. Families that hosted volunteers were given one ticket per volunteer day hosted. The family that my buddy and I stayed with wound up with 32 tickets to a whole pile of events. They had so many, they were giving them away to friends and family.

Radio stations, bars, restaurants, stores had all kinds of draws for promotional tickets too. Probably better odds than the original lottery.

Scalpers were out in force. The prices were ridiculous for the hot ticket events, but weren’t too bad for less popular events. Also, the prices dropped off as once the event was underway.

Also, a lot of events weren’t sold out for whatever reason. Generally these were for days that no medals were on the line (bobsleigh qualifiers, etc.). I was able to pick up some same-day tickets from the kiosk ($35).

All of this is based on my experience in Vancouver, but I suspect it will be simliar in London (though maybe a little harder since Europe is so damn small).

TLDR:

 1. You most likely WILL be able to get SOME tickets to see SOMETHING.
 2. If you don’t care what you see or when you see it, and can negotiate well, scalpers are the way to go.
 3. Check at the ticket booths. You will be surprised.
 4. Don’t get hung up on price. It’s once in a lifetime, so $150 to see fencing is probably still worth it.
 5. Out of town venues are less likely to sell out. Think mountain biking, rowing, etc.

TLDR was TLDR:
Go to the venue with a pocket full of money. Tickets will be had.

it is absolutely shocking how fucking shallow LOCOG is. Its all about the money from sponsorship, stopping people from bringing in bottles of water into the park then making them pay £1.60 for a 200ml bottle, MCdonalds serving all the food, journalists get harrased by rent a cops, surface to air missiles on blocks of flats and thousands of armed policemen in the streets
fuck LOCOG and david cameron

only 30% of the tickets for the mens 100m final were made avaliable to the public

This.

I thought the missiles were a joke at first but no, apparently it’s perfectly OK for the Govt to stick artillery on your roof for the summer. (Oh and broadcast the location as well.)

The rules on what can/ can’t be brought in to the stadium are ridiculous, based on going to Wembley where everything was searched and me and my friends had an inflatable haddock (yes really) investigated as a security risk.

I don’t want to even think about prices inside the stadium either, greedy bastards.

Having said that I am looking forward to it, it’s likely a once in a lifetime thing so I’ll enjoy it while I can

One day maybe Americans and Canadians will understand what Europe is…

Europe is where they make the German Goo Girls videos.

And that’s all we need to know about Europe.
