Log is not Currently About (FKA Throws Training)

I go to a real small school. I don’t think we have any throwers though they could possibly be interested in starting that up sometime in the future. If I could just get a little coaching, I’d love to do some kind of all-comers meet.

Is there a track and field team with runners and other athletes though? If there is already a team be it club, ncaa, or naia I bet they’d love to have you come out and throw. Its a way to get points no matter how well you do, if another school only has 2 throwers in an event all you need is a legal throw and you have gotten them points. If there’s no equipment and cash is problem for both you and the school, it will be rough to practice, but at meets it would be considered extremely poor etiquette for another thrower or school to not let you borrow a shot or a disc. If there’s no team you could try to start a club, but it’s a lot of work you might just wanna look at all-comers meets. that season is coming up soon. i know out here in the bay area theres a series of meets at both Los Gatos high school and Cal. usually go first saturday in january to maybe mid or late february, then the junior college meets will get going and a lot of them are open to individual athletes. If you’re comfortable telling the whole internet what state you are in i could try to help you find some resources on finding meets. I’ve been scared to try out what I see on youtube for fear of learning bad habits. I bet I can find some good beginners tutorial videos though.

yeah hit that coach up next week, integrate yourself into the team as soon as possible before meets start. the head coach might know a bit about throwing himself from coaching the lower levels, if not he’s almost sure to have a good contact he can put you in touch with.

Turns out we do have one or two throwers. Not sure how I got mixed up about that :slight_smile:

Crossface Extensions- 33- 3 of 5. 1 of set 2 and 2 of set 3 left arm were assisted.

Hang Cleans- as fast as possible- 115x16, was tired as hell dont get me wrong but had plenty more in the tank, stopped because the plate was about to fall off on one side.

*Note I do not advocate doing more than 6 reps on cleans ever. Cleans are a power exercise, as the reps get high you are training yourself to get slower, compromising your form and risking back injury. I am only going to be working on high-rep clean sets for a short time, to complete a coach’s challenge, that while asinine, i still feel compelled to destroy.

Last 2 reps of 225 were brutal, felt amazing to get them.

Was surprised tho, on the first set i expected to feel like i couldve done 7 or 8 going in, the reality was prolly no more than 6 had i been going for a combine score. Im glad I didnt break from my program to attempt that, there will be time later

Dang, legs are still golden but i think my limit for both hang cleaning the curl bar and behind neck pressing it is about 180 :frowning: gonna have to find power rack time during the week, hopefully i get this better job and they have a company gym or somethin.

friday- hang clean and push press to 201(on a curl bar).

saturday- deadlift to 415(PR)

bench 235- 3,3,2
wide speed reps with 135 and cross-face extensions
