Lifting with the Stricks

Boiled Peanuts are the key.

Its the Super Soldier Serum…

Great lifting by the both of you Strick.

Brett, there is much truth to that. When I start one of these sets, I kind of blank my mind, start with the inner snarling (sometimes audible…sorry) and have to attack the bar. If I go into it ho-hum, I am toast.

I believe in the philosophy that those who win are not the ones who simply want to win. Everybody wants to win. Ultimately, those who win are the ones who refuse to lose. Failure must never be an option. And if it happens? It is to be reviled, overcome and erased.
And, yes, I forgot my meds this morning.

Matty, my wife has a similar issue. She was very iffy about me posting videos. She was worried about what people would think.
I don’t think men look at women in the gym unless a) they are impressed with the amount of weight they are moving or b) because they are hot. Well, then there is C)…both. Both of which are good things.

Bulldog, i hope they are strong. My daughter already shows a great deal of strength. She can’t squat down without getting on her toes, though. It is the strangest damned thing I have ever seen. She is very flexible, but just can’t seem to do it.
I hope that my youngest is strong. He already wants to play football. My 7 year old (autistic son) just wants to be Ben 10…lol.

Cav, thanks. I have passed along the compliment. And it is a good one. Probably made her feel better than telling her that she could out lift Superman.
I really think a lot of her strength is based on her having carried so much weight for so long. It had to strengthen her bones, muscles and connective tissues.
I REALLY believe that she will hit a 2x body weight deadlift before the year is out.

Rug, don’t be giving away our secrets. Indeed, boiled peanuts are a super food.

And Joe is correct. Boiled peanuts are the main ingredient in Super Soldier Serum. Grits is ingredient number 2. If I could get my wife to eat them, she would already be hitting a bw bench, 1.5bw squat and 2bw dead.

Well, that’s it. I’m hitting the supermarket for peanuts and grits. Who would’ve thought it was so easy?

Good luck finding raw/green peanuts up there. You can always get the raw, but dry, and soak them in water for a day (like beans) before you boil them.

And remember, grits can be eaten with butter and salt, just salt, bacon with or in them, eggs AND bacon with or in them, with redeye gravy, sawmill gravy, little shrimp.

The best? Melt cheddar cheese into them. Mmmmmmmmm.

Or, there is an OK version with the cheddar melted in, diced jalapenos mixed in, put in casserole and bake, with more cheddar on top. Bake until the cheese thinks about browning. Rotel can be added as well as sausage.

There is nothing you can’t do with grits!

Stop!! I’m ready to eat the keyboard!

Impressive lifting by Mrs. Strick. She looks great!

Strick, nicely done by both of you. Great motivation to make sure you stay “stronger” than the Mrs. You’ll have to tell me how you were able to get her lifting, three women in my home and none of them will have anyting to do with it.

Cav, grits are good stuff. I hear that up nawth they like to put sugar on/in them. Man…talk about ruining a good thing.

Thanks PG. I will pass that along. It is sure to bring a smile.

CTL, thanks. I just asked her why she started. She said that I kept pestering her, for years. Then, from my constant “you can do that”, she decided to try. Since she already liked being in there when I worked out, it was the next logical step. Now she is addicted to the progress and things not feeling as heavy as they used to. Good luck with your crew!

Deads

Back has been bothering me. In part because of the return of deads. In part becasue I spent 2 days, last week, installing and uninstalling 100# and 150# UPSes. Awkward units to handle. Then, 4 hours of weeding, digging, and sledging, this weekend. Decided to do singles. Back is barking. Gonna have to watch it.

You can see her dive bombing on the squats. We are working on it. But she has great depth and a tight upper body. Definitely progressing.

I showed by Babe, KSSnaps video of a great squat… She then traded in her bazzilion rep workout she’s been doing for years to 3x10’s! Her chronic tendon inflammation, gone… Oh and 3-4 weeks in it really shows and she was drop dead to begin with… Talk about super-compensation!

Showed my daughter same vid, and told her this is what an accomplished female power lifter looked like. She’s been training bicycle riding since and says she wants to be a female BBer. I showed her what current fitness and bikini competitors look like… But not BBer’s as I think PL and the others are far more healthy. Tried getting her into Gold’s but got rejected, since then I’ve seen other kids in there so going to “social engineer” her in…

I would highly recommend showing them what the actual results of physical culture are. The results are as far from what they’re told to fear… What they really should fear are the natural consequences of the Standard American Diet and immobility…

Damn nice upper body Strick, no wonder you killing MPs!

ps.
Your wife is setting a fine example…

pps.
Nice home gym set up!

Thanks, Null. I think my shoulders have thickened even as I have lost weight. This low carb stuff seems to work.

The wife is happy that she started lifting. I am happy that she has started lifting. It is a win-win.

It took some time to get everything for the home gym. The only thing I really want are heavier DBs. But those things are expensive!

Garbage disposal went out day before yesterday. My wife inadvertently ground up my shot glass…grrrrr. I spent 4 1/2 hours, last night, replacing it AND the pipe I broke off while trying to replace it. Why is plumbing never easy? Something always has to go wrong.
In any case, pipes are replaced. Garbage disposal is replaced. Nothing is leaking.

Shoulders

Interesting buildup to this one. During the day, today, I caught a crap in my left rear delt. It had been feeling tender/sore. Got home and checked it and found that I have a 4-5" long bruise, in a line, running through the rear delt. I can only guess that I got it from working on the garbage disposal, having my rear delt pressed into the edge of the cabinet, as I worked under the sink. I must have had a good bit of pressure on it for it to hurt down into the muscle.
Also, my left, front delt had been feeling better for about a week. Last night’s work, coupled with a lot of overhead work at work, today, left it twingy again. In fact, my left shoulder felt pretty fragile during my first few sets, but, once again, kind of numbed.

Military Press

Set 1

Set 3

Set 5

Last rep felt like a grinder. And then it hit me. I am calling any rep where the weight slows, near the sticking point, a grinder. That is not really a grinder. But the reps have been so smooth, to this point, that it feels like it.

Rear Delt Raises/Reverse Flyes
30x12
35x12
40x12x2

Laterals
30x10
35x10
40x8

Once again, no shrugs, to give my back a break.

190x5

225x1 - PR

Lat Pulls - backed off on weight as her right rear delt was achy after the deads
40x10x3

Sweet, sweet recovery…

She’s gotten really close to double bodyweight in short order. I’d say we have a natural-born strength athlete here.

Your press reps in the 5th set still look hella fast, Strick.

Nice work - Strick Family.

skip you are looking thick and leaner

Thanks, Tony. My concern is that “slowing”. Once I hit a weight where I really have to gut out a weight, in the 1st 2 sets, having the endurance to get 5 sets is going to be tricky.

She does seem a natural, doesn’t she!?
Right now…
a 2x bw dead would be 275#, give or take a few pounds…50# to go.
a 1.5x bw squat would be 205#, give or take…70# to go.
a 1x bw bench would be 135-140#…30-35# to go.

I think the dead and bench are doable THIS YEAR. The squat we are going to have to play be ear.

I am amped for her!

Thanks, Kevin. My weight belt is 2 holes tighter than it was at the beginning of the year. And I can’t say for certain, but I believe that my shoulders are thicker. I just need a bit more medial delt to round it a little better.

Medial delt?? Uh oh! At this rate, Strick’s going shopping for a banana hammock!

Man your wife is an absolute NATURAL! Cant see the vids at work, but the numbers on the MPs dont stop going up! even with a crap in your shoulder lol…

Cav, not much chance of that. I am old, fat and need something as a win. Good delts seem like what I have the best shot at. I can have cannon ball delts to go with my keg abs.

Matty, she does seem to be exhibiting that. I am really excited for her. Of course, since all of my maxes are stagnant, I could be living vicariously…lol.

The shoulder is what it is. Fortunately, the pain abates somewhat when the weight gets heavy.
225# next week. That is the biggie for me. The most I have ever pieced together at that is 225x5x2. Hitting the 5x5 would be a huge improvement. I just don’t know if this has yet bumped my 1RM, though. 220# went up pretty good. Every 1st rep flew up. But I would have to put 60 more pounds on the bar to get a 1 rep PR. That is a shit ton of weight on MPs.

Funny (to me) moment, yesterday. My wife pulled the 225# for a new 1 rep PR. I told her that was awesome. I gushed over her a bit. Then she kind of smiled and pointed out that I was doing a 5x5, on Overhead Press, with just 5# less than her shiny, new deadlift PR.
It is moments like that when she starts lamenting that she is weak. I have to remind her that a) I have a few mores years at this than she does and b) I am over twice her size, literally.
She is so funny. BUT, I am definitely starting to see the determination emerge, on some of her efforts. It is a great thing, since she tries to act like she isn’t in any way competitive.
