It’s funny actually, this was one of my main reasons for not going to the Netherlands program that my college offers for a semester.

Good luck, hopefully you’ll find something.

I bet Amsterdam Animal couldve hooked you up if you’d asked him first…

Obviously never been to Portugal or Albania, eh? (Bwahahahah-snort-snicker!)

holy mother of god listen to me.

I went abroad last spring to australia. The gym I was using only had 6 sets of dumbbells with the highest being 66 lbs, no barbells, and a handful of machines. I did more binge drinking there than the rest of my college experience.

HOWEVER, I still made some of the best gains of my life there. How? I lifted every day with my own modified high frequency routine. Going abroad generally means having more free time. The first month I was even in the gym twice a day, everyday.

Then again, my grades didn’t transfer, only the credit, so very little of my time went to school. I have no doubt that if I had real weights to work with and was better with nutrition, I could’ve doubled my gains. Then again, it’s the opportunity of a lifetime, so enjoy every second of it.

I can’t believe there’s people here who would rather sit home and lift then travel to a foreign country, drink foreign booze, and bang foreign chicks.
Well said. While certainly a person should train seriously, unless the person is going to compete, the idea he’d not enjoy a one-in-a-liftime opportunity because he might lose 5-10 lbs. of muslce is stupid beyond words.

Besides: muscle memory will bring it all back.

You’re worried about losing your gains? I thought you’d be more worried about leaving your girl, Courtney, behind and unsatisfied.

Turns out I was training with an ex Miss Universe. She was looking a bit smaller now, but her pic was on the wall looking like a dude. Slovenian bodybuilder EVA.

I’ll be studying abroad in Italy this summer for six weeks. I’d like to know if it’s going to be possible to keep up with lifting and some sort of diet (I mean… I’ll be in friggin’ Italy, I plan on enjoying the cuisine). I don’t mind if I put on some fat, or even alot of fat, I’m more worried about losing muscle and strength.

I’d really like to hear from anyone who has done this before. Also, would it be wise to pack alot of supps/food or will I be able to buy most of it there?
Believe it or not, there are gyms AND food AND protein powder ‘overseas’.

Amazing.

I lived in Italy for four years. You should have no problem finding a gym. Call the local rugby club if you do.

One thing I noted was that the spots in front of the mirrors were always occupied;-) True love at work.

ascord are you going on the Urbino program with Villanova? i can give you some extremely specific information and advice if that’s the case, since i’ve spent the summer there myself.

ok i didnt read the whole thread properly to know that you are in fact going to urbino!

your walk to class every day is almost a mile and a half long. towards the end you will be walking up an insanely steep hill. your legs will be rocks by the end of the summer.

as far as gyms go, i was never able to find my way to one, since there were none in the area around the dorms/mensa. the only one i was aware of was on the other side of town, which will be almost impossible to reach on a routine basis unless you happen to make friends with cars there. alot of the kids play soccer, and playing them will put your body through enough punishment worthy of a workout.

i wouldn’t even bother trying to make it a thing to put on muscle while you are there. you’ll lose weight and body fat and your muscles will get more toned anyway. you should focus more on enjoying yourself and meeting the hordes of girls that are there!

if you have any other questions just ask!

I am studying in France for a year. It aint easy to get everything here. Gyms not that great, supplements suck, but best time of my life. I would really hope that others don’t lose out on such an experience just because it’s a bit harder to find everything you need.

It is well worth it and I haven’t lost any strength or size even with the shitty gyms and no supplements. I am doing better than ever, cept for the drinking here, but hey, it is Bordeaux can’t miss the wine unless I really want to.

I’m sure you’ll be able to find a gym…either outside or inside of your university. And if not, I would suggest doing bodyweight exercises.
