I’m right there with ya. I plan to be athletic, but I’ve always played different sports. Basketball is my athletic outlet, but I have to get healthy. It’s a pretty unforgiving hobby.
Glad to hear you’re loving BJJ. After I retired from my gymnastics career I spent time wrestling and eventually transitioned to BJJ. Eventually earned my blue belt but then Kids happened and I haven’t gone back. I loved the technicalities involved in BJJ but at the end of the day hands down the tournaments were my favorite part. It’s one thing to roll with someone in your gym, but when you don’t know what to expect from your opponent and have the adrenaline pumping was so awesome. I miss it.
I’m really looking forward to competing. Been a good 15+ years since I’ve had my hand raised on a mat, and that mentality of competition never leaves a person. My personal woo woo theory is that it just festers somewhere in your cognitive mind and can turn toxic if not expressed. You are 100% correct, such a difference between a gym roll and a real competition. I miss it bad.
