Squat
bar
3x135
3x185
3x210
3x240
6x265 - Nice. Definitely compares to previous 7x260 and 3x275. The formula puts 7x260 at the highest but it also overestimates the max for higher reps so this was definitely a good set.
Breaking.
1990s
Several 1-3/4 spins landed on knee. Took a while to get into these.
Planches
Performance was not at my best. These really take time to recover from.
Left arm handstands
Couldn’t do a single one. Felt dead x(
Not sure where it all went if I gained two pounds.
Bench press
bar
3x95
3x130
3x150
7x165 - Nowhere near previous PRs, namely 12x165.
Breakdancing.
Couldn’t even hit an HSP, shoulders were dead. Couldn’t even support a headspin. Left right away.
Obviously planches are killing my upper body lifts. I noticed it starting last week, but it’s really obvious now as yesterday’s squat set was, if not a lifetime PR, really damn close, but my OHP and bench have tanked.
This means I have to choose: Planches along with other shoulder intensive bboy moves (1990s, handhops, pretty much anything), or lifting.
No need to make it dramatic. I’m going to see how this week goes if I cut out all upper body lifting. Please nobody panic, I love lifting but if it’s going to detract from my bboying it’s got to go.
Something is messed up with my right foot; if I try to bounce off it to do headsprings/headflips it hurts and I don’t want to make it worse. Probably came from all the times I crashed on it… literally years of crashing on that foot from every mill, 90, headspin etc gone wrong…
Barrel mills
Some clean doubles, need to keep my arms strong in that barrel position because if they collapse there’s no way I will make it to the next mill.
Headflips
Not bad for how long it’s been, one arm assisted were much easier than I remember. But I could only take so many shots at head-only flips before I started psyching myself out, and I didn’t get very far with them.
Headspins
Nothing new, will get back to practicing drills as well as chaining them.
Squat
bar
3x135
3x185
5x225
3x250
4x280 - Definitely lifetime best. Awesome. This eating shit works, nevermind I came into the gym with my belly looking like a turtle shell.
Breaking.
1990s
Got, like, one 1-1/2 spin. Very poopy.
Planches
Couldn’t even hit a tuck planche, shoulders dead. Tried to do left arm handstands, just was not there.
So I practiced something I’ve been meaning to do for a while, springing from my left knee up onto my left foot. It will take more time.
Practice:
1990s
Few before I started crashing a shit ton.
Planches
Couldn’t even do a tuck planche.
Toprocking
Was all I could do, practiced coming up with some new things.
Since replacing bench and OHP with planches I saw a significant decrease in upper arm size. Chest increased last week, but this week it came back down. The fall in these measurements is either due to being drained out (that is, my measurements on a day when I’m recovered and ready to train would be better) or simply that the whole “bodyweight builds muscle” thing is an urban legend passed down from one martial arts movie to the next.
This week is a deload, so even if I switched back I’d be benching, like, 115. I’ll give this experiment one more week. Also, I will take tomorrow off - my upper body was already dead yesterday when I couldn’t even hit 5 pull-ups, it got killed even more when I couldn’t even do a tuck planche. I will also take my measurements every day because this is a stressful time of male body image problems and extreme sexual insecurity.
Back on it. Taking yesterday off was necessary to recover but I noticed I had to take some time to relearn my moves, my balance and tightness. Especially with 90s. Warming up took longer than usual too.
1990s
Landed a double on my knee. Most of my other spins were pretty mediocre though, 1-1/4s as I tried to re-learn the cues I had been trying to internalize.
“Planches”
Best one: Legs still very high in the air, but feet were clearly together this time and I was much more stable.
Left handhops
Best was two, then I died
Toprock/messing around with style
Gay. I should be so pumped full of energy that my shoulders are massive unstoppable powerhouses that can endure hours of nonstop practice on shoulder dominant moves so much so that I even practice toprock on my hands.
As for the measurements for today and yesterday, yeah nothing new. I was expecting something more like getting a massive surge of nutrients into every muscle and I would know I was recovered when my chest and arms each grew a half inch. It was not like that.
Exam tonight, was only able to train an hour before gym closed.
When I first got in, the weight area was full. Since it was deload lifting I practiced first to get going on something.
Barrel mills
Sweeping legs around helps significantly. This was all I got to practice today and I didn’t even get much time for it, so I’ll do head moves tomorrow too.
I felt really really really bloated last night and today. Can’t say for sure whether my abs look worse but I know I’m getting all day food babies from how I eat.
Gainz all around this week ha. Think since I took it easy on Saturday I was all filled up and ready to go today. Speaking of which
Breaking.
1990s
best: 2-1/4 spin. Best ever lifetime ever spin ever at all. Landed on my feet too. Even better was I was still able to hit ~1-1/2s afterwards.
Planches
Still felt weak here compared to last time I did these, may be just because last time I did these was at the beginning of the session while I was fresh
Deadlift
bar
3x135
1x185
5x210
5x245
22x280 - lifetime PR. Took long enough
After that set, I had to make a decision:
a) go for the shoulder dominant bboy moves in a fatigued state with little time, shortchanging performance on these moves and increasing injury risk
b) practice style and various stuff that I always think about doing but never get around to, leaving me fresh to hit 1990s and such Thursday night.
Chose b, practiced various footwork moves.
Squats
5x10x155
Pull-ups
11 4 5
Used to allow 45 minutes for assistance, now it’s only 30, which is likely why my pull-ups have been so poopy.
Planches
Practiced tuck planche > handstand. I really have to focus to get it right.
Handhops
Practiced new technique of keeping my legs together as I bring them down; supposed to be easier to balance this way, will post video.
Felt that yesterday’s deadlifts took some stability and strength from me. Training today I felt like I mentally knew what to do, but my body was not giving me 100% compliance.
Also, did anyone read that online Korean horror comic? Fuck me that’s scary.
