Nice squating. 405 is a big milestone.
Solodog, LS and JJ, thanks for the congrats. I was really pleased.
Nice work Chi-town.
Good squatting congrats.
Congrats on that 405 squat PR!
Iam late but freakin awesome squat number CTL!
What’s up guys. Looks like its been about 16 months since my last post. Ran into a few injuries, first my back then my knee. Last Monday underwent arthroscopic surgery for a torn meniscus, itching to get back into the gym. Was working out regularly before the surgery, but all lifts down. At least I’m doing something lol.
Chi-Town, welcome to the old folks’ home. You’re a strong dude for 45. My nephew is attending Loyola, it’s a small world.
EDIT: whoops, sorry, thought this was a new thread. Sorry about the injury, you’re still a strong dude.
Thanks Cavalier. Loyola is a great school, I hope he is enjoying his time there. Trying to convice my daughter to apply to a local school like Loyola or Northwestern, she’s not having any of it.
Stitches out of the knee today. Saw pictures of the tear, pretty small, some arthritis under the knee cap. Nothing to prevent me from continung to train. Physical Therapy prescribed for 4-6 weeks, 2-3 times per day. I will resume upper body training today.

He’s making A’s and is just a year from graduating. He seems to like it. A bit unnerving, he says on occasion the students have to correct the prof in class. I’ve done a little teaching myself. Got kicked out of one school for not having a master’s, kicked out of a vocational school apparently the students complained I made them work too hard.
He’s a skinny guy like I was at his age. Offered to help with lifting but he doesn’t seem interested.
Getting my first few workouts in since the surgery. Deadlifted today, went up to 315x3. The meniscus repair dose not bother me as much as the smoothing of the cartilage under my knee cap. Was tough to hit the right groove when deadlifting because of knee pain. I think I did more of a SLDL than regular deadlift.
Today’s workout: DL-top set 315x3, one legged leg press, very tough on right knee, 45 degree back extension and seated leg curls. Also walked 20 minutes at 3.1 mph.
Slow progress but don’t want any set backs.
A 315 DL is your idea of taking it easy?? Wow, you’re tough.
Cav,
Actually a little disappointed. I had no knee pain at all while deadlifting before surgery. The doctor said he smoothed (probably bad wording) out the cartliage under the knee cap and this is what is giving me the most problems. Hopefully it is temporary, it had only been a couple of weeks.
Walked for 24 minutes outdoors this morning, knee felt good then bad then good then bad then good. I guess this will keep happening until I heal completely.
Worked out in the afternoon
Pushups 4 sets 20, 15, 12, 12 (2 min rest between sets). Boy do I suck at these
Lat Pulldown 100x12, 115x12, 130x6, 115x8 super set with
Face Pulls, 25x12, 40x12, 55x8x8 (I think)
DB Press, 30x12, 35x12, 40x6x6
DB Shrugs, 55x12, 65x12, 75x12 super set with
DB Curl, 25x10, 30x6x6
Wrist Curl and flexion 2 sets x 15 (curl), 12 (flexion).
Doing higher rep stuff and I suck at it. Nothing like working on your weaknesses to humble one’s self.
