Damn dude, those are some trophies. I would love to go on an African hunt at some point. I don’t think the good ol’ 30 06 would cut it, probably would have to get a Winchester 458 or something. What are you shooting?
Good work on your lifting lately man. Just a heads up but it is generally accepted in the sheiko style of training, that when the weight feels too heavy, you should drop weight and maintain the reps. The idea is that you don’t want to miss out on valuable practise. Do 330 5x3 instead of 365 5x1 next time.
Rock, sorry man, hopefully it’s better next time
Austin, those were all taken with a .300 WSM, WITH EASE!! You could have taken them all with the .30-06 as long as your shots are well placed. Now, the bigger game, .375 is the minimum BY LAW, and my dad took out a cape buffalo with his .375. Hopefully you’ll get to do it someday, it’s an amazing experience.
Arramzy, thanks for the heads up. I just felt the need to feel the heavier weight, since I’ve been getting dick slapped by it lately. Next time I run sheiko, I think I’ll take 90% of my 1RM and use that as my training max for DL’s, in hopes that it will be more manageable for me.
A big thing to consider is that sheiko is really written for sumo deadlifting because conventional takes much longer to recover from (so the russians claim anyways). So I am not sure what you have been doing lately, but if it involves a lot of conventionals that could be a problem.

I had no idea. I have been pulling conv, but wanting to switch to sumo. Only thing holding me back is that I know my sumo is going to take a little time to get up over my conv pull, and that’s not something I want to do prior to a meet. Next month, I’ll switch over to more sumo pulling and give it a run. Thanks for the input.

When does it stop?!
Squat
175x3
210x3
245x3x2
280x2x5 80%, very effing heavy
*Left elbow was hurting from this, tried a closer grip and it didn’t seem to aggravate it further, but the pain was still there
Bench
155x3
185x3
215x3x2
245x2x3
260x1x3 Reps were heavy, but smooth. Paused, also. Elbow didn’t bother me, which was weird I thought. Worked on getting a tighter setup, playing with foot position, happy with results.
Pushups (instead of flyes)
5x10
Abs (Lying leg raise, off the couch)
3x10
Gettin’ down to it.

245x2x5 (90% 1RM-80% inflated training max) Easy-Vid last set. Really have cleaned up my form a lot (Thanks PBCLAX!) and am confident that I am tight enough to press what I want to press.
Incline flyes
5x10
Deadlift
223x3
275x3x2
315x2x2 Beltless up to this point, felt great
340x2x5 Belted, felt easy, good, tight, fast, smooth, etc. Now if I can maintain my composure and form for the 90% and above sets come meet day, I’ll be fucking happy.
GM’s
5x5 different stances
Woke up today, 220.0.
Feeling ready. Much more prepared than the last meet I did, and I’m not cutting 15lbs to do it either!
Edited to give credit where credit is due.
That bench is looking really good ink. Really solid work man! It is paying off.
If you don’t mind me asking, I don’t know much about hunting but about how much did those hunts cost? I know nothing really but that kudu is fricking insane! Where on earth do you find them?
In for Sheiko and hunting. (I might have posted here before. Don’t really remember)
Strong benching.
And those are some nice trophies. Ever since my step-dad brought home a stuffed brown bear one of my life goals has been to get one of my own. Although I need to get my rifle license first (plus moar money obviously).
Thanks guys, I’ve really been trying to get the technique down so that the numbers will follow. I think if I can keep things in line, I should start making big gains there.
Re: hunting trophies. These were all taken in South Africa last June. Most outfitters have “packages” that you can go for, usually they’re for a predetermined number of animals and you know what is on your “to-do list” when you get there. Different animals cost different amounts to take. For example, I think the warthog was like $400 because they are everywhere there (same with the impala), but the larger/rarer trophies are more costly. The kudu was around 2 grand I, but that’s nothing compared to the big 5 (Lion/Rhino/Elephant/Hippo/Cape Buffalo). The cheapest one (buffalo) are over 15,000 and the lion is around 50,000 along with an elephant. It’s rediculous, how someone can afford to go pull the trigger one time, spend thousands and thousands of dollars on something like that.
Some of the other plains game can be pricey, depending on their size. Usually if it’s a record book qualifying size, it’s going to cost more (obviously).
It’s not cheap, nor is the travel to get there (or the taxidermy/shipping if you go that route), but if anyone is into hunting at all…it’s totally worth it.
And shit…eating bacon wrapped zebra or a kudu filet…you really can not beat it. I have not had 1 steak in the US that beat any of the filets I had there, and I had zebra/kudu/impala/wildebeest/cape buffalo daily. Fuck I wanna go back!!

Bacon wrapped zebra and impala, for reference
