Please, please, please do not make this a thread dedicated to arguing about the Palestinian - Israeli conflict. Much like the abortion debate, no conclusion will ever be reached, and a lot of nasty shit will get thrown around.
I have noticed that a few forum folks here live and work in Israel. I was hoping that you might provide some glimpses into how life is during the current state of affairs.
I can’t imagine being there at this moment in time, yet most Americans feel a strong affinity towards the Israeli state.
Again, please don’t turn this into a nasty political debate. I would just like some forum regulars to share their thoughts and experiences, if they would.
Honestly, I don’t feel a strong affinity for Palestine or Isreal. I wish they could stop fighting and realize they are killing the future of the world (READ: CHILDREN) I believe in God, and so do the Israelis and Muslims. We all believe in the same God. I wish this conflict would cease immediately. It is just non-sense fighting over a piece of “sacred” land, when no one can prove it.
My father-in-law passed away a few years ago, but for years before that he subscribed to the Jerusalem Times and Russian Life magazine just to better understand other cultures and how issues were perceived there.
He could really bore you to tears with that stuff…
(Kidding, but only a little and only about the second part.)
on the surface everything looks OK
ppl still go out, women go shopping, we go to work, we are worried about the economy etc.
deep in the heart there is growing frustration and deprssion, combined with resolve for some, anger for some, and apathy for some.
we are, for 50 years, with ups and downs, living while involved in war.
my grandfather was trapped in a bessieged village in our independance war while my grandmother was pregnant with my uncle, my mother served in the army in Sinay (the part of egypt Israel oocupied and gave back in the peace treaty with egypt), when I was 6 years old my house was nearly struck by a katyusha, which is a rocket proplled shell, from lebanon, after that Israel occupied almost hlaf of lebanon including beirut, I served in the army 10 years ago, and then the popular rebelion of the palestinians was underway.
you see, its been going on for quite some time.
how do we go on with our lives? we just do. humans are adpators and survivors.
most of the country is quiet, only the “frontiers” are somewhat troublesome, but thats not anymore dangerous there then LBC(long beach-compton)or other gang infested places.
obviously after I lived in the states I can make the comparison and say that it may seem that people here have more to worry about.
